My wife and I walked here from The Peabody, after dinner so I could get some oysters and we ended up ordering a bowl of gumbo and a bowl of rice and red beans. The waitress asked if spicy was ok, because some people sent it back saying it was too spicy. We assured her that spicy was fine with us. I have to say first that the oysters were really good. Very fresh and served with cocktails sauce and horseradish, which I used a lot of. The gumbo and the redbeans and rice were both spicy as advertised and simply outstanding. Cannot recommend this highly enough.
Heading out of town with our little dog. 11:30 am Monday May 2nd 2022. Called ahead to see if there was a patio. Drove, parked, host told us to sit at the back patio and waited while we watched employees hanging out and laughing. No one greeted us. Both took turns walking past the employees to wash our hands. BTW there was only one person in the restaurant who was done eating. Sucks cuz we've loved visiting here and have referred family.
If I could leave 0 stars I would. Where should I begin… my friends and I are visiting Memphis and we were excited to patronize Pearls. However, the service was absolutely horrible. How do have a restaurant with $40+ price points and they serve their bar drinks in plastic cups. How can you order a dozen and half of oysters and they never brought any plates/saucers, my friend had to go and grab plates for us. Oh did I say they were paper plates. And the FOOD…was even worse than the service… it took them 20+minutes to make 3 old fashions a staple cocktail that was the worst I’ve had. The oysters they’re “famous for” we could tell were thawed oysters the grilled oysters were really bad… way too much cheese. If I were the owner I would hire a real chef and experienced General Manger because this place has so much potential if there was a motivated team and some passion. If you’re reading this review go to Sage right up the street. Better yet have the GM go their and take notes on how to run a popping successful restaurant with Amazing food and great service.
Well, the food was okay. They were INCREDIBLY short-staffed. Only two visible employees during our 90 minute stay. Our first drinks were our last ones as well, as we were never asked about refills, and only saw our server twice. Once when he took our order, once when the food came out. Again, a 90-minute stay and we only saw him twice. Finally asked the food runner for our check and went elsewhere to get more drinks. I see why they add a gratuity automatically.
While the service was not bad, it was clearly not worth 18% of my almost $200 bill. The food was not worthy either. The gumbo was greasy. The crab cakes were very small and the crab was M.I.A.! I could not complete my meal. The fish was average, not the best. The crab legs were not up to par. I can clearly see why they closed their Cordova location. I used to LOVE their crab cakes. I don’t know what has changed, but clearly their COOKS have left the building! *Now I know why the place was almost empty. ?
Beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon n downtown Memphis. As the parking lot was packed, so did I expect the restaurant to be. NOT… I should have known that something was amiss when I saw 18% gratuity signs pasted in every conspicuous place. There was literally no one there. I’ll cut to the chase. I ordered a dozen on the half shell. They were served in a puddle of water that was supposed to be crushed ice. I ordered a half dozen Rockefeller that were served with the cheese burned…I’ll never come back here. Pathetic.
The food was good. I tried the alligator bites, pasta, oyster and catfish. All was good. However, the waitress took away from the experience. Simply speaking to the people you are serving is a great way to start. It was very awkward. I wondered if people were getting up and leaving because of the wait time or the waitress.
I had been to Pearl's in the past and it was always great. This time I walked in and sat down and waited and waited for someone to notice I was there. Just a few people in the restaurant so not like they were overwhelmed. Finally, a man who appeared to be management acknowledged my presence and gave me a menu. Then he went back to the other end of the room and went back to whatever he was doing. He said, she will get to you in soon to take order. The lone server who was overworked was doing her best. She took my drink order and then came back for food order. Food came out quick and was very good. I gave the server a good tip because this was clearly a case of management not coring. Management could have helped the staff.
The fried crab claws and crab cakes did not taste or smell fresh. However the manager said I could try something else. I ordered the steak which was delicious. Thank you for great customer service.
I should have walked out when initially walked in and saw a kitchen pan propping the door open and the waitress shows up at table smelling like weed. Not wort time writing a review. So called pearl house oysters where average, catfish was very large pieces that tasted fishy. Wifes queen crab legs where way overcooked and could not be peeled at all. Only two small sets for $49 . All this along with two beers was $124. Wow what a bad experience. Hope they will correct.
