I’m an African-American mid-30s male. This was my second time going here. The first time I went with an older Hispanic friend, and the service wasn’t great at all.2 years ago, I assumed that the service was so bad because maybe it was just a bad day for the waiter, so yesterday I went again with my daughter. It got so quiet when I walked in there and all eyes were on us. I felt uncomfortable from the minute I walked in. The waitress looked at us and didn’t smile one bit. I bet it didn’t help that we walked in with N95 masks on.She looked like she would rather be anywhere else on earth than waiting on us. We tried VERY hard to get her to smile, and nothing. My daughter didn’t even recognize what was going on because she’s never personally experienced racism. This morning, I looked at all of the reviews on Google, and many other African American people have had the same experiences. I will NEVER EVER go back there, even though it’s down the street from my house. N.E.V.E.R.Some restaurants have waiters that don’t like black people, but at least they fake it. This place doesn’t even try to pretend.ANNNNDDDD the food was trash, waitress got our order wrong, etc. Omg. Double negative. And our other option was Coastal Fish Co near Shelby Farms. Can’t believe I picked this place again. Shame on me.
Service was good. Kept my tea filled. Chicken salad sandwich was good. Had diarrhea in about 30 minutes. Maybe old chicken salad. I showed up right when they opened their doors. Probably chicken salad from yesterday.
My pastor took me and my wife to dinner for my birthday. Good food, good service as usual. Music was a bit loud for table conversation. Maybe we came on the wrong evening.
Was there in 6/4-2022 @ 5:15. There was five us. We had tea checks 3 on one and 2 on the other. This was the worst food we have ever had at Mortiners.3 of us had Nacho Supreme I would not recommend these at all, they looked like it was thrown together, one could not even eat hers, the girl that delivered the food took our Nachos to 3 different tables and then set them up where the menus and where they write down on the pad where you are seated and walked off and left. She then came back and picked them we had to tell her they were ours, not to mention she dropped the tomatoes and peppers on the floor. One man ordered Oysters and a salad he sent the salad back was hardly anything on the plate. Not to mention the Oysters went up with no one at all telling you.For what we paid for food was the worst I gave seen. We go to Mortiners a lot and no one apologize for anything.Be a while before we decide to go back. We sat at the 5 top in the corner.I would think before I go..Debby Marbury
Great service and great food.Friendly staff actually seems to care about delivering good service.Classic Memphis institution taking care of food and alcohol needs of the 60s generation
It was our families 1st time at Mortimer's and was hoping for much more. We had dinner for 5 of us which was $200 and not one of us was happy with our food. The only reason I have 2 stars is the appetizers were good.
Tiffany was a fantastic waitress, I couldn’t decide/didn’t care on dressing for my salad so as she said I got a “mystery” dressing- fantastic! Still don’t know what she chose. She was personable, fast, efficient, thorough, personable and made our visit that much better. I ordered Snapper Pontchartrain and it was spectacular; cooked well and tasted fantastic. The rest of our party (my dad, sister, step mother and a family friend) were all impressed with their meals. Highly recommend a visit, I’m here from Oklahoma and while we usually go to BBQ restaurants while visiting Memphis I’m sure glad my dad suggested Mortimer’s. Would repeat regularly if I lived here.
The bar/restaurant is a neighborhood favorite. I've been a customer for 25 years +. The menu offerings are delicious whether you want oysters, a burger, steak, fish, or soup and salad. The Prime Rib, or Snapper are favorites if you are hungry. The French onion soup paired with a glass of wine is tasty and light. Plenty of parking across the street to accommodate everyone.
The best of Memphis local owned restaurants. This restaurant has been in business since the early 80s and has stood the test of time. The food is always fresh and delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant has a feel of home. Parking could be better, but considering that location there is not a choice to expand.
