Best place to eat in Memphis! It's a small place and doesn't look like much from the outside but that chicken is amazing! Hands down the best fried chicken I've ever had. It does have a bit of spice but not too much. The sides were pretty amazing as well and the fried chocolate pie topped off the whole meal really well. Staff was also extremely friendly. I will definitely be back.
This was our favorite meal of the entire trip. Simple restaurant and absolutely delicious fried chicken with a little spice. I got the sides that came with the meal which were coleslaw and baked beans. These were both excellent. My husband got the greens and said they were great. I did get the warm coconut pie, which topped off the evening. Staff very helpful and friendly. Eat here!!!
At first we thought that Gus's would disappoint. We were traveling with a large group (14) and at first they didn't seem to know what to do with us. We were willing to sit in different areas of the restaurant, but they didn't want to seat us like that. So we had a bit of a wait to free up enough tables to put us all together. Once we were seated all went well. Our service was great and the food was good as always. Prices right now across the country are up so we expected the bill to be higher than usual, and it was. Still a great place to stop and eat!
Delicious food. We had a bit of a run in with having to wait too long. Seemed the waitress wasn't too happy with us mentioning others got sat before us. BUT, this is where the stars come from. After we mentioned we didn't want to be served by an upset waitress, we had the best experience. She was great and professional. Hence the 4 stars and good review. Businesses should be about growth and this place is doing just that ?.
When your are in Memphis this is must. Great fried chicken. Loved every piece of it.
Loved this place AND the chicken! Casual, noisy interior, jukebox and plastic cups, and filled with satisfied customers. Come early or be prepared to wait, but it's worth it. Moist chicken with a light, spicy batter, served hot from the fryer. Yummy mac and cheese and baked beans. BTW, drinks are lean here - a few beers, tea, and sodas. Or skip all the atmosphere and get carry out.
Everything about this place is great. The service, the atmosphere, the food. People walk in happy, talk happy during their meals, and leave happy. Wish I could take the restaurant home with me to Florida
Absolutely horrible customer service from Daphne and she was the manager supposedly !
My best friend (a Memphis native) told about Gus's as soon as our plane arrived and told us we needed to come here. We were not disappointed! The chicken was crispy, but juicy and tender at the same time. We ordered a side of macaroni and cheese, green beans and coleslaw. The staff was very warm and welcoming and the food was AMAZING! Great place to come with family and/or friends for great food and a great atmosphere.
I have always been a fan of Gus’s. Previously I ate in the downtown location, and this is the first time that I stopped by the Germantown location. The chickens are equally tasty. Deep friend crunchy stuff, never fails. I took fries and potato salad as the side. The sides are decent, very basic. The chicken alone rules. I am a fan of dark meat, but bigger pieces can be more greasy.
