I highly recommend! The ribs were excellent. The service was superb. I definitely suggest Charlie Vergos Rendezvous if you are looking for some Memphis BBQ.
A wonderful experience. The location. The setting. The no frills service. Just excellent. The food is top notch. Hard to find better anywhere.
Loved the vibe of this palace. Feels like a speakeasy steeped in history with good food to-boot. Located off a charming alleyway and down a flight of stairs in a basement. Seems to be THR place to go for BBQ, specifically pork ribs. I am not super fond of BBQ… but when in Memphis. Despite this, I enjoyed my meal. The sides in particular (potato salad, coleslaw, beans) were fantastic. Could have spend hours examining all the eccentric artifacts lining the walls. Service was so-so, but I’d still recommend this place if your looking for authentic BBQ in a fun/unique atmosphere.
While visiting Memphis, we placed a delivery order with Charlie Vergo’s Rendezvous, including delivery tip for the driver. The order never arrived at our hotel. The restaurant, Chow Hound, and Door Dash all refused to issue a refund. We don’t want this to happen to anyone else, so we are posting our experience so that it is less likely to. Avoid this restaurant, Chow Hound, and Door Dash.
Highly recommend this place! Gotta come in from they alley and down the stairs… like a secret hideaway…. Well worth it!!! The ribs are amazing!
Fantastic food and friendly, personal, and helpful service. The dry rubbed ribs are the best I've ever had, hands down, ajf the potato salad as a side was just unreal. Highly recommend this place if you come to Memphis, for me it's a must!
Excellent Food, Staff and Atmosphere! If you are anywhere near Memphis, do not miss this legend! This is a must eat experience.
Our server was great, we had a big party of 9 for dinner. Food came out hot and smelled wonderful. I had the brisket and ribs platter. Brisket was great. Was disappointed in the ribs. They were a bit tough and dry. Rub fell flat for me also.
We had THE BEST SERVER EVER! I wish the food matched HIS exceptional service and attention to our family. We all really liked the vibe of the restaurant very much. It has lots of nooks and crannies. Kind of neat. Fun bar area & brick and old world decor. ?The bathrooms were relatively clean but definitely could have been better.?All of us had decent food however, my husband's ribs, that he was sooo looking forward to, and are ubiquitous in BBQ cooking so it was a huge disappointment for him to go to this restaurant on a recommendation, spend his money, take the time to drive our family into Memphis and HIS meal be a giant let down. No good. We all tried them. They were tough, tough, dry, chewy. ? That's NOT how ribs should be. Not sure if we will go there ever again. We shall see.
Rendezvous was recommended to us for "Best Ribs in Memphis". This place has a cool entrance. You walk down stairs to the basement. There's a warm glow to the dining room. Huge brick ovens line the wall. It's packed so it must be great, right? No. Not great. Sadly, not even good. Maybe the explanation is simple? These ribs are Dry Rubbed. Maybe we just don't like the taste of Dry Rub Ribs. Possibly. Maybe the table next to us also didn't like Dry Rub and likewise, the loudly complaining table in the corner? These ribs were dry as dust. If there was flavor, it was overwhelmed by the dry, gritty rub. We asked the Server if perhaps we got the wrong order? He politely assured us that we got the right meals and that Dry Rub is an acquired taste. We couldn't acquire any such taste so we left.Obviously, there's a Fan Base for Dry Rub Ribs. There are many 5 star Reviews here. The Peabody Hotel raved about Rendezvous. For us, it was not a good meal. Next, we try Corkys.
