Update:We came back today. We had the 2 for $24. My husband had some Retro tacos with tortillas and salsa with a soda, and I had the Baha burrito with tortillas and salsa with a soda. It also came with tortillas and Queso. The Queso was soooo delicious and addictive that we ordered another queso. The waitress put some Pico de Gallo on the Queso. This is the second time we came here and will be coming back for sure. The food was fresh both times and the service friendly. Just thinking about the Queso makes me want to go back tomorrow, lol...A month ago:It's Cali-Mex, not Tex-Mex or Mexican. Good food. Good prices. It has a bar and specials for each day of the week. Today was taco day. For 7.95 I had Retro Taco chicken, salsa and nachos and a soft drink. The chicken was a little on the dry side but good. The salsa was yummy. They had Pacifico on tap.
Their food is ok. It was my first and last time there though. Honestly, compared to Salsarita's, they are not even close.
The food was soooo very good! Good prices! Great service! We had the chicken Pico burrito, the steak chimichanga, and the fajita quesadilla and 4 different types of crunchy tacos on the side. Every bite of all of it was outstanding. A must stop and eat.
Had the carnita as well as the beef tacos. I'm from Texas so my standards are pretty high. I was pleasantly surprised. The pico de gallo and salsa were fresh and that's a big deal. I did miss the beans & rice that would have justified the price a bit. I'll go back
Best Cali-Mex I've had in a long time. Street food like it was served on the streets of Los Angeles. Pacifico on tap. We'll definitely be back.
Our party of four came in an hour before closing on Memorial Day weekend. Place was very clean albeit nearly empty. We asked if it was okay to order in with our drinks. No problem. Cali Mex style not to be confused with Mexican infusion food was delivered to table within minutes. Super friendly wait staff. Our plates were hot & fresh. Generous brands of hot sauce on tables. Would recommend.
I passed this restaurant on my way down Strawberry Plains for the first time, and thought it sounded interesting. On my way back, I decided to stop in and order their Jalapeño Brisket Quessadilla to-go. It sounded unique and I wanted to give it a try. It was worth it 100%. Best Quessadilla I've ever had. The Brisket was full of flavor, and the Mango Habanero sauce complimented it exquisitely! This is a place I plan on returning to in the future, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the area!
I was genuinely shocked to find these poor reviews about Retro Taco. I have been three times now, several months apart, and all three times was so pleased with my meal and the service. The fried cheese curds are good but the carnitas keep me coming back. I've had carnitas tacos and quesadillas and both are amazing. I also love that the lunch specials come with chips and salsa (and the salsa is sooo good!) I will definitely keep coming back. Lunch is always busy but the food comes out quickly.
I was expecting more. More flavor. More filling (tomatoes, etc.). More "pop." I've seen this place packed with folks every time I've driven by... got here today before the rush... there's just not much to their Fish Taco, Shrimp Taco or the Shrimp Fajita Taco... next time I'll probably run for "another border..."
Never knew it as a food truck. First visit! The food was disappointing at best. Had the brisket nachos. They only have brisket of Friday and Saturdays! I think they cooked it on Thursday and reheated it both Friday and Saturday. I had the brisket nachos. Do not order them! Again the brisket was very dry, covered in a sweet bbq sauce and drowned in queso blanco. It was like sweet vomit to be honest. On the good side the wings were fantastic and the Diet Coke fizzed! Definitely a two for me! My first and last visit!
