I grew up around this place and remember going there as a kid watching the cook spin the dough in the air through the glass outside. Food is always fresh love the onion rings I can't eat alot of bread but love the pizza as well. Charlie the boss man runs a great restaurant along with his team there during the busiest of times. My mom and dad still have one of their first original cardboard menus. This is a very clean restaurant inside and out. Love the old drive inn look the original is still there.
Yes, get the onion rings with your pizza. Our first visit we ordered pizza at the counter. The person taking our order asked if we wanted onion rings. When we said no thanks and it was if the whole restaurant got silent and everyone stared at us in disbelief. (They didn’t but she did seem a little surprised.). The pizza was great and we came back again. This time we got the onion rings. Now I see what the fuss is about. Treat yourself, get the onion rings.
Wanted a nice salad. I asked what was put on the salad and was told to look at the menu. The menu said our salad with sliced grilled chicken and a sprinkle of feta. I opened the container to find a salad of shaved lunch meat, not grilled chicken, onions, peppers, radishes, olives, and tomatoes. The menu should list these items and indicate shaved chicken, the kind found at a deli counter. Grilled chicken indicates a chicken grilled on a grill. One expects to see thick, warm slices of chicken. The onion rings we tasteless and unsalted. The pizza was ok. Really expensive for what product. They only take cash. That should also be indicated larger and multiple times!
If I could give a higher rating this place would get it. The food, we ordered a lot of food just to try them out. The Onion Rings have a cornmeal batter and are amazing by themselves but lets make them better. Get a side order of the spaghetti sauce, oh my YUMM. Picked up a couple of Pizzas as well and like the Onion Rings they did not disappoint. Hard to put them down but we had to try the Spaghetti. The meat sauce and perfectly cooked noodles. There is nothing on this menu that I won't order again.
CASH ONLY. The locals rave about this drive-in joint saying it's been on The Food Channel twice. We watched a cook chopping fresh green pepper! We ordered three different pizzas during our stay in town and each one proved worth the cash. Definitely on our list to revisit when we hang out here next year!
went because we saw it on Diners, drive-ins and dives. the food was pretty good. there are no seats inside so be prepared to take it home or eat in car. also, it is a cash only restaurant.
Always amazing food! Service was quick and efficient! Best place to get pizza in Knoxville!
We drove up to order this evening. The call button was answered promptly. We ordered a large #11 pizza, no anchovies, crispy crust and a large order of onion ring. Our wait time was less than twenty minutes. Total bill about 30 bucks, CASH ONLY, plus tip. We drove 15 minutes to get back home. Pizza was absolutely perfect! Crust was perfectly done, crispy but very good & chewy. Pizza topping were plentiful, with just enough sauce and cheese. The onion rings were the best! Hand battered and fried up just right!! Not greasy. We highly recommend Pizza Palace. They have a great menu. Will try something different next time. Most of their business is drive up. There’s a small area inside to sit at a counter to eat,
Very disappointed! I’ve heard a lot of great things about this place and how it’s some of the best pizza in Knoxville. I was very excited to finally get a chance to try it out; the pizza was mediocre at best. I would consider the pizza a very small upgrade from say Papa John’s or dominos. I also got some of their “famous” onion rings, not real sure what makes them famous because cookout whips up some better O-rings. Overall very disappointed I will not be going back. I would give it a 1 star but the service staff was very friendly so I’ll give an extra star for that. If you are looking for some good pizza and don’t mind a little drive outside of Knoxville, go to Big Ed’s in Oak Ridge.
I've grown up eating at the Palace. There are none even that compete with their onion rings (and I've tried them all over the country). The pizza is made right in front of you with fresh ingredients every time. Their greek salad is off the chart! The spaghetti sauce is the best I've ever had. My favorite combination is a JMS pizza (not on the menu, by request only), an order of onion rings with a side of spaghetti sauce for dipping! Wow, now I'm hungry
