Was just randomly looking for a Mexican place for lunch, saw this place had good reviews and decided to stop in, and I’m so glad I did! The food is absolutely amazing and is owned and operated by the nicest young man. We sat inside and ate burritos and tacos and enjoyed all of it. The sauces and chips and salsa are on point! Definitely give this place a try if you’re ever in the area!
Surprisingly good. Wasn’t sure what it would be like because of location but it was on point. Got the steak burrito. My only qualm is that they had tasteless lettuce and tomato in it. Not needed. Needs a little extra meat and if they would take the lettuce and tomato out and throw in a fresh, flavorful pico de gallo, this thing would be flawless. The sauces on the side were amazing and the cheese on the tortilla is unique and not had anything like that in knoxville.
Fuego, located in a quasi-daylight basement, takes “hole in the wall” to a whole new level. That said, it is a genuine shame that its location and setting makes it primarily a destination for savvy UT students, because everyone deserves a genuine Mexican food experience: soft shell tacos, your choice of full-flavored proteins, micro greens, and robust red and green sauces on the side. In short, Fuego is the genuine article. It left me craving mole, as one can only get in larger cities (with effort).
This is Knoxville's one solid claim to real deal mexican (not texmex). I say this as New Mexico native and recovering Californian, who works primarily in Latin America. Fuego has presentation, flavor and service beyond that of Chivo for a fraction of the price, with a fraction of the wait, and none of the pretension. I will be giving them lots of money in the coming months.
Absolutely amazing food!!! I moved to Knoxville 7+ months ago, I found this place tonight unexpectedly and it is some of the best food I’ve had since being here. Full of fresh and flavorful ingredients and some of the nicest dudes throwing it together in the kitchen. I will forever recommend this place to others!!!!
Everything about this taco is special. If you look close there is a little crusty cheese patty inside those corn tortillas. Would go here over and over again.
Everything has a great outer crust of fried cheese, Both of the sauces that come with the meals are perfect and their carnitas is definitely the best thing on the menu. Cant go wrong with carne asada or chicken though.
Absolute must try, beat hidden Gem in town. The SAUCE is next level, don't hesitate just order from here I promise you won't regret it. Also try the Tia tacos ??
literally their food is unreal... it has absolutely never failed me!!! the owner & staff are incredible and truly care about their customers. did I mention the food is unreal? seriously hands down my favorite taco & quesadilla place in all of Knoxville & that says a lot. I've lived here my entire life & fuego is fairly new! you HAVE to try it out! not to mention, their hours are awesome and they typically stay open very late which is accommodating to most college students. I literally went in there one time right at closing time and they gave me a quesadilla for free... couldn't tell you why. they're just amazing. & it was the best quesadilla I've ever had. so many good things to say about this place!!!
Flavors on point! I was especially impressed with the Tia tacos. The rich, toasty flavor of the crisp griddled cheese surrounding the thick slices of avocado stole the show. But all the other elements-- black bean puree, crumbled cotija, cilantro microgreens, and even the tortillas-- worked together to create something truly delightful. And somehow it's vegetarian?? This is exactly what Knoxville's taco scene needs more of ?I also enjoyed both the carne and pollo asada tacos, which are more traditionally styled. The quesadilla, with more of that glorious griddled cheese on the outside, was riiich. The sauces worked well with everything. Can't wait to come back to try the burrito or Saturday night carnitas!
