If you're going to boast that you have the best ribs in America, you should probably back that up. Got the ribs after reading the reviews. They were smoked, but they smoked the moisture right out of them. Not very good at all. Potatoes were bland, but the little dish of slaw was good. Server never checked on us until the meal was done so we went without refills as well. Would not recommend.
My 6 year old son and I ate here and the service we received from Brody was EXCELLENT and the best service we've had in a very long time from any restaurant!! He was super nice, friendly, engaged with my son, and tentative. Service couldn't have been any better. The food was awesome, very tasty and was hot. Awesome job to everyone who worked 7/16/22 around 4:30pm. Highly recommend and wanted to give credit and praise when it's well due and deserved!! Thanks again Brody!!
Onion rings not on menu but we asked... they had them and were wonderful. Their bread basket selection was also amazing... the beer muffin was great. Don't care for their BBQ sauce so couldn't eat the ribs. Brought them home to wipe off sauce and use mine. Our server was his 1st day but did excellent job.
I had family in from out of town and decided to take them for. Late lunch to Calhouns on Bearden Hill. There were 3 other seated tables in the restaurant that I could see in addition to our table. Even though the restaurant wasn’t at all busy, our food was delivered slowly and at room temperature. Our waitress had a great personality but lacked the skills of a wait staff person. Multiple times we had to ask for drink refills, more ice, etc. A stop for lunch that should have taken is 45 minutes tick us over an hour and a half. While I am sympathetic that good help is hard to find right now, that is no excuse for such poor service at what should be an upper level restaurant. Will never eat at that Calhoun’s again, if I eat at Calhoun’s at all.
We had a wonderful dining experience. Would return the porkchop was out of this world. If you would like a wonderful waitress ask for Eilish or Sean.
Calhouns is good but not the #1 restaurant in Knoxville. The food is good not great and pretty basic menu. I like Calhouns ribs and smokehouse salad but to say it's the #1 restaurant is far off
Major disappointment. I visited this Calhoun’s while traveling and it was conveniently located near my hotel. I ordered 6 smoked wings and as you can see in the picture the wings are tiny. Even the manager said most people complain about the size of the wings. So why not change that? The wings were also hard and overcooked and came with no sides. $12 for 6 tiny wings is shameful. I also ordered two sides of Mac and cheese and the portion was very small and it was bland. I ordered a freshly squeezed lemonade but they didn’t have lemons. So I got sweet tea instead and it wasn’t sweet at all. The only thing that saved this from being a 1 star is the catfish. My wife really enjoyed it. The manager also was very empathetic and refunded us for the items that weren’t good so that was good. But from all the good I heard, my wife and I were very disappointed. Not sure if it was just a bad night or this specific location, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
We were in town and looking for BBQ. We came here specifically because of an article I read that mentioned this as the best BBQ in the area. The thing about articles---they contain subjective opinions just like reviews (so take this to heart or not, but we won't be back). Our visit started with poor customer service. The waitress either needs more training or should move on to a different profession. When the customer says "the lemonade doesn't contain any lemon" (perhaps it was mixed wrong???), the response maybe should be "I'm so sorry, can I remake it or get you something else? instead of arguing with the customer that the bartender mixes it and it's different all the time. My kids both ordered pink lemonade but all they got was sugar water. So she did not offer to replace it and the kids drank water. Anyway, the service was extremely poor, especially when we arrived at 5 pm and were the only ones in the dining area and her only table. Next, my margarita did not taste like it possessed any tequila, although I was charged for top shelf without telling me. Maybe they do add a shot but actually for the large glass they use they should consider two shots. Definitely not a $10 drink during happy hour no less. Third, the bread was so stale we couldn't eat it and the biscuits need a new recipe because all I tasted was salt. Fourth, the mashed potatoes tasted sour and unfortunately sent my nephew to the bathroom in a truck stop on the way home, which is not somewhere you want to spend any time. How do we know it was the mashed potatoes? He ate it first and refused to eat anything else. The pulled pork was grisly with little flavor. Finally, two stars only because two out of three of us had tender ribs. The coleslaw was good but the portion is very tiny and for the price of the meal, perhaps a tad more is warranted. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately it wasn't meant to be.
We had a large group celebrating my nephew’s graduation. We had 2 servers and they did well overall; for some reason they kept forgetting one of our party’s drinks. Portions were good and food quality was high; overall a good value
MAGGIE was an amazing server on the floor today. She was the only server with no FOH manager help for her morning shift. She was able to handle issues on the floor along with putting in my order and making sure my drink never hit empty. The 2 host that also helped her were so sweet and grabbed my initial drink for me I ordered pretzels with beer cheese they were wonderful as an entree chicken teraki it was alright not my favorite....but my review is for the server not the food.
