We had just arrived at our loft in Old Town and decided to walk over to the Jig and Reel. The sign said "Sit where you want" so we did. We waited for 5-10 minutes, and no one showed up at the table. I went to the bar where the bartender was happy to take care of us. Flash forward two days. Went back to try again. Sat in a different area with many other patrons already there. Same thing. We waited for ten minutes with servers passing by right and left to take care of other patrons, but no one even stopped to say hello. We left. The only reason the review isn't one star is due to the bartender that first night.
Very cool!Impressive selection of scotch and very friendly waiting staff. Even their snacks are delicious; they’re really trying their best. I’ll definitely be going back for more.
We drove over an hour just to have dinner here. Our experience started out great. The atmosphere is neat and our server was great. Our pretzels and beer cheese was really good but when it came to my dinner I was pretty disappointed. I ordered the shepherds pie and honestly it was terrible. It looks fantastic in the pictures but it was the most bland shepherds pie I have ever had. I had my husband try it and even he said that it needed seasoning. They did take it off our bill but it was just disappointing.
Oh man, do I love this place. The food is always good and the atmosphere is fantastic. I had the shepherd's pie and my friend had the bangers & mash, both of which left us stuffed and satisfied. The beer was pretty darn great too. We had the pretzels and beer cheese but I forgot to take a picture before we ate it all. It came out fresh and hot and delicious. 13/12, I'd recommend. ??
Maybe Boyd's is still "reeling" from COVID, but the service was slow and subpar (we miss Anton!) and the music; my God, what happened to the Scotch, Irish music? We listened to 2 Texans who could play and sing but not together. These guys were OK, but they were in the wrong place. Still, the food is good and the whiskey selection (especially the Scotch) can't be beat. I hope things return to normal soon.
Perhaps Boyd's is still "reeling" from COVID but the service was slow and subpar. (My wife and I miss top notch bartenders like Anton). Usually the Scotch/Irish music creates the perfect ambience but these two guys from Texas were in the wrong place. They were OK, but they were in the wrong place. Still, the food is good and the whiskey selection (especially the Scotch) can't be beat. I hope things return to normal soon.
My experience here was great. Despite being busy with the Big Ears crowd, the staff were more than attentive. The drinks were great, and the food was pretty much perfect. I had the haggis plate, and it was flavorful and cooked just right.I plan to be back here whenever I'm in Knoxville again!
This was a great find in The Old Town District. Great bar with additional rooms. Had live music, not sure if that's a regular feature. We ate at the bar and our food was wonderful. The people were fun and friendly. Loved this pub.
Pretty much everything about the Jig & Reel met our expectations. I give it a 4 because of the ambience, which was great. We did not go expecting an outstanding culinary experience. The food was good, no complaints. It was a busy night, but the service was acceptable. Unfortunately, we sat near the rear and were treated to the constant slamming of the back door. Apparently, most of the staff smoke and there was an almost non stop in and out, accompanied with the door slam.
Decided to go celebrate St. Patrick's Day and this was the only place I found serving Corned Beef and Cabbage. (always on the menu)The service was great, the food was spot-on, the portions were just right, and the price was very reasonable.I finished the meal with an Irish Coffee and it was one of the best I've ever had.Great ambiance also.I will definitely be going again, way before next St. Patrick's Day.
