We ate at Project BBQ for the first time last night and it was delicious! The Brisket was cooked to perfection and the 2 sides, baked beans and Mac and cheese were delicious! The staff was friendly even though they were packed! We will be regular customers!! 5 stars!
This is Texas BBQ. If you don't know what real Texas brisket tastes like, then this place will enlighten you. Now I will not bias this review as I grew up in Texas, I will only say that there are very distinct differences in the way Texas BBQ is seasoned and served and everyone in Tennessee should experience it. So when you go I recommend the family platters that include a variety of smoked delights. The Brisket is extremely flavorful and moist. My kids especially enjoy the sausage, which has a small amount of kick to it. All the sides we tried have been amazing. Smoked mac n cheese, cornbread casserole, are hands down excellent. They have burgers and sometimes loaded fries. Leave room for dessert, we like the banana pudding. Tons of staff working, always very attentive. Limited hours of operations usually just the weekend so check on times before you go.

Great! I had pork BBQ tray, collard greens and BBQ beans. Everything was excellent. I tried just a little of the vinegar bbq sauce base because not usually my favorite but it was very good. I used the traditional sweet southern style sauce and it was my favorite. My husband had a brisket burger and loved it! Also the smoked Mac and cheese and cornbread pudding (think that is what they called it) very very good as well. We enjoyed banana pudding for dessert! We highly recommend!!

As a homesick Texan, it’s a given that barbecue is a must when I’m dining out pretty often. The meats at Project BBQ are on point. My wife and me really enjoyed fajitas the other night too. I have to say I’m pretty impressed with the brisket as well, which is hard to come by. My only real gripe would be that there’s not really much in the way of sauces. A bold, rich, spicy mesquite style sauce would be a top notch finish for the chicken or pork. Fortunately, if we’re ordering out, my wife and me keep a variety of sauces at home so I guess we got that covered.
I’ve tried BBQ in all the spots you’re supposed to, KC, Memphis, etc…. Then I tried this place when it was a Food Truck here in my home town of Johnson City and got THE BEST BBQ I’VE EVER HAD… bar none. Everything is amazing. You can go wrong. Don’t skip on the sausage… it’s easy to miss with the rest of the amazing menu, but it is so so good. The ribs are the best on the planet. They’re so good, they don’t even have to be open Weekdays at their new location. Simply the BEST!
First visit to Project BBQ and it did not disappoint. Great customer service. Fajitas were delicious. Definitely coming back here. Highly recommend.
My boyfriend and I stopped here while in Johnson City based on the Google review. They did not disappoint! The half smoked chicken was done perfectly, well seasoned and juicy. The spicy brisket sandwhich was also very good. We both got the smoked mac & cheese as our sides and it's in my top 5 as far as mac & cheese goes. Very flavorful and creamy. The staff is incredibly nice and we got our food within 10 minutes of sitting down.
You won’t find better barbecue in the Tri-Cities, the state of Tennessee or arguably anywhere else in the United States.Alex has perfected the art of brisket.Mind you, everything is great on their menu from the smash burgers to the jalapeño cheddar sausage, ribs to the delicious tasting burnt ends.You won’t go wrong.If it’s your first time getting Texas barbecue don’t skimp on your orders! Order more than you think you’ll need because you’ll want to take it home IF you don’t eat it all while at the restaurant.It’s so good we’re literally there at least twice a week.You will love the customer service as well.Johnson City is extremely blessed to be home to PROJECT BBQ!
