We had dinner at Howard’s last night (8-13). We had a beautiful table over looking the water. Our waitress was great. I wish I had remembered her name but was she was from Romania. We were a party of 4, 3 had the ribeye and 1 the filet. All were cooked perfectly. It was a nice way to celebrate my partners birthday! Thanks again for a nice evening!
My last review of Howards was a 3 out of 5. It was better this time. We had the steak for two, a ribeye, and a filet. Our meat was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The sides were good as well. Howards scored a 4 out of 5 with us, because we noticed the price increases, and found out that we had to pay "extra", for salad. Perhaps, they ought to do what Texas Roadhouse does and count the salad as one of your sides? Now, we ended up at Howards because it was so close to the motel, and there were weather issues, ie rain. Had it not been for that, we would have gone to the Peddler Steakhouse. Of course, the all you can eat salad bar, is included in the price by the way, at the Peddler.
We went here mid afternoon on Wednesday July 6. We had been white water rafting earlier today, we ordered and my brother-in-law started feeling really bad, passed out. Immediately 3 wonderful strangers came over to help, the owner or manager called 911. They got cold towels, that helped. While waiting for Emergency Service, our food was ready, the EMTs arrived, who also were great! Some of us ate while he was getting checked out, conclusion it’s was probably heat exhaustion. The owner took his food back remade it and we took it to go. These kind people waited for my husband to go to the hotel and get the car to drive my brother-in-law back. They all walked him out and sent their well wishes. Bless them all for their kindness. The food was great, the steaks were cooked perfectly!!!
I visit Gatlinburg at least once a month. First time at Howard’s. The fried mushrooms are great. I got a ribeye, definitely not the best tasting steak in Gatlinburg. Cherokee grill is way better for a steak. $45 is a bit pricey for that steak. I don’t mind spending $40-60 on a good steak, but I don’t want it to taste like I cooked it at home on the grill. I would definitely recommend stopping in Howard’s for a appetizer platter. And they do have good service.
Service was fast and pleasant. Seating was immediate. Food was very good although the grilled chicken breast and chicken tenders were both a little dry. Would definitely go back but likely try something other than chicken.
Given the ratings I was expecting way more from this restaurant. The atmosphere was beautiful and service was friendly but the food was sub-par. I tried to find something meatless and it was very difficult. Even most steak houses now have a little something for those who don't eat meat. I tried making a quesadilla meatless and there was hardly any lettuce in it at all. My meat-eating dining companion enjoyed his food but I am the one writing the review.
I took my mother and my son here because each wanted something different. My son got steak and my mom got fish. We had the fried catfish bites appetizer which was surprisingly the best thing I have eaten fish wise (I do not like fish). The portion size of this appetizer could easily have made a great meal. My mother and my son loved this so much that they requested we grab some the next day before heading home. I love that if you wanted, you could sit outside by the river.
Let me start out by saying I was very disappointed in the Steaks here! They came out looking perfect but far from it! I order a medium NY Strip it was more toward rare the fat and marbling were still white and the center was cool to cold. I usually don't send food back but did so here and it still came out the same way! I dont even think they put it back on the grill! It was by far the worse steak I've EVER ordered at a restaurant! Now for the positive the salad was good the beer was cold and the bake potato was tender and had plenty of butter. The Mrs tried a burger and it was ok! The location was absolutely perfect outside patio right on the creek!!
The food was really good! If you pick restaurants based off of ranch dressing, this won't disappoint. Their fries are some of the best fries I have tasted. The sweet tea is truly southern, and the staff was very friendly!
We attempt to each outside as often as we can and the patio here is alongside the river/creek and shaded from the hot sun. Our waitress, Jenny, listened to our ideas and suggested the Extreme Appetizer along with a Steak Quesadilla which fed all four of us. Terrific food, atmosphere and service.
