This place came highly recommended and it was ok at best. First the staff was not that engaged to help first time customers with the ordering process then took 20 minutes to make 3 milkshakes. Don't offer milkshakes if you can't make milkshakes due too lack of staffing. We got our hot food but still waited 8 minutes for milkshakes!!! Now to the food: catfish was good but chicken wing was not good. The seasoning on the meat was tasty. Worst collard greens ever!! It was a congealed mess in a cup but Mac and cheese was good.
First time here and not disappointed at all. Been to all the other nash hot places in town and this one is right up there. While princes is my fav this will certainly take over second and i will be back. Small place but packs a great atmosphere and the staff were attentive and helpful. Clean and inviting. If i am in franklin around lunch time again this will be my go too!!!!
Although the female staff member was rude, the food was delicious. We had the Cry Baby Fish and regular fish and chicken tenders. The fish wasn’t U.S.A raised catfish. The collard greens had a very unusual taste. Someone in my party thought it was vinegar, but I think it was liquid smoke. The Mac and Cheese was ok too. Just to be clear it was the meat and seasoning that makes this place worth a visit or two!
Will never return! We had Big Shakes twice, pickup orders. Food was OFF the charts!!!! Then it goes left. We ordered (attempted) on doordash when the restaurant was very much so open but wouldn’t allow an order to be placed w no reason. Not doordashes fault. Then next order, accepted and confirmed, get a call from doordash saying Big Shakes cancelled the order - again not doordash. Now, last night was the last straw. Ordered well in advance, only to get a call from doordash TEN MINUTES before food was to be delivered saying the restaurant cancelled the order again. My teenage niece was visiting from out of state, was so excited to have food from there, only to be let down. In short, can’t blame doordash when we are watching the orders being accepted and confirmed. Horrible, will never order again even pickup.
Big Shakes Im told is the real deal when it comes to Nashville hot chicken. I definitely enjoyed the dry heat, but what really blew me away was actually the fish! 2 piece chicken and 2 piece fish, 1 Executioner 1 Rambo. The fish was amazong and allows you to taste more of the flavor and the heat, where as the chicken has heat but flavor wise was just Okay, but still enjoyably spicy. You should definitely eat here at least once in your life. Ill go everytime im in town.

Since moving to the area, my wife and I have had a couple different hot chicken places in downtown Nashville. Big Shake's was better!! Great spice and taste. Small dining room, but they also have carry out (which we plan to go back and get)
Service was quick, the price is reasonable, and the food was great. As a travel agent I do market research so my clients will know all the best food spots to try in Middle Tenn area.
LOVE it!! I go for the hot fish, but the chicken is outstanding as well. Turnip greens are likewise excellent, and somehow different than other places - possibly some beef stock, or filé, etc. Something makes it Better™. Catfish is where you want to be. Unfortunately, the chairs are very uncomfortable, in keeping with what is apparently a Nashville trend of providing crappy, uncomfortable seating at hot chicken places. Still, it's worth checking out - the hot fish is *really* good!
Took some friends from out of town, and we all really enjoyed it. We all got the chicken and fish special. I got the wings and catfish with spice level “stop, drop,and roll”. For my sides I got white beans and fries. The spice level was perfect for me on the fish. The portion size was huge. There was live music and busy that day. My only complaint was the wings had no flavor. Not sure I got the correct ones, and the beans were not warm. The flavor was still really good. There is no doubt I would return.
