Great BBQ place with a fun and warm atmosphere, good food, friendly and fast service, close to the exit off I-40 going by Cookeville. I'm partial to pulled pork or brisket if I am going to a BBQ place, but I tried the burger, and it's amazing! They capture that "back yard barbecue" smoky char-grilled flavor in the best way. The fried okra is just the right level of crisp without being greasy. The pulled pork is pretty good, too, and I just can't get enough of those cobettes. There's also a tempting selection of desserts.
The baby back ribs were amazing, so tender & juicy!! The service was great & the atmosphere was fun too!! They have a big bar with many selections
We arrived before the lunch rush and still waited for over 45 minutes for our food. Sadly the food was not worth the wait. The green beans had no taste, the Mac n cheese tasted like melted Cheez-wiz and the baby back ribs were just ok. The St. Louis style ribs were pretty good though, so there is that. The bathrooms were clean and the place was pretty full by the time we left so maybe we hit it at just the wrong time.
We went back to Rib City yesterday for lunch. The riblets were great!Their sweet tea is good also.
I had a full slab of ribs; they were a 5-star great smokey taste and your choice of BBQ sauce. They had so much flavor I didn't use BBQ sauce. The wife got rib tips; they had the great smokey taste but were dry. She had to use the BBQ sauce. The sides were great Bake Potatoe, green beans, Mac and cheese. We will be back, and the wife will get the ribs!
Brisket was WAY over cooked to the point it tasted like crockpot cooked roast beef. Ribs tasted like they were made days prior, then refrigerated and reheated to order.
First time eating here and it was enjoyable. My husband and I got the lunch special plates which were about $10-12 then 2 drinks so after tip we spent $40. The food was pretty good and loved the french fries and toast. The only down side of our visit was the waitress, she was a great person and super attentive even to be her first day training. My problem was that she didn't get the tip but the person training her did and we barely saw the trainer compared to the trainee. Wish they let the trainees keep tips too but overall good experience.
Food was great. BUT SERVICE SPECTACULAR!!! Thank you Dena/Flo. She is why our meal was great and our experience fantastic! We will return every time we are in Cookeville. From the moment we walked into the bar area we were immediately greeted by her and attended to immediately. We explained we had never been there and asked for recommendations. She knew it all. Super great experience. Thanks again.
The little Mexican girl that seats us was obviously drunk. I’m 6’2 and could smell it on her breathe as she staggered around. This is not anything uncommon since on a separate visit she sat at the bar drinking before moving to the patio and almost knocking another guest over as they sat trying to eat. Will not be back or recommend until they get better staff.
Our waitress was great! Making sure everything was good. making sure we didnt run out of drink. zhe seemed happy to be at work. And the food was absolutely great. Mac and cheese is to die for.... Definitely will be back.
