We celebrated our sons birthday here tonight and had such a great time! The food and service was amazing!! The food and drinks here are always so good! We always get the molcajete mexicano. Highly recommend this if you love trying different meats cooked in true mexican fashion. The chorizo quesadilla that comes with it is so so so good! Thank you all for a wonderful birthday celebration!
We read the review and folks in Collierville recommend La Perla as one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area. Hmmm. Maybe it was an off night? It was dinner for three on a Friday night. We had a bit of a wait, nothing too serious and the weather was ok so we didn't mind hanging around outside. The restaurant was busy and noisy. We were excited to see what the fuss was about. We ordered drinks. My mom and I get margaritas and my husband got a beer. They arrived quickly. The margaritas were Ok. Nothing amazing, but we weren't here for the drinks. We were excited about the food. My mother ordered enchiladas, my husband chose a burrito and I got a skillet dish. All were cooked very well and served with rice and beans. The problem wasn't the quality of the food so much as it was the lack of freshness and flavor. One of the most impressive things about Mexican food are the colors and use of fresh items on the plate. You eat with your eyes first and that truly only enhances the flavor. My dish, a combination of meats, was the best of the bunch. The others were just Ok.
We ordered shrimp fajitas and the taste as well as portion size was good. The chicken in the chicken quesadilla from the kid's menu wasn't properly cooked though and tasted rubbery. They were least apologetic about it. Every item on our order took at least 15 mins to arrive at the table, including an extra side of rice. We later realized they are family owned and were having lunch themselves on the next table. That can't be an excuse for the slow service though. Hope it gets better in the future !

I’ve been to probably 50 different Mexican restaurants throughout west TN in my lifetime, and none hold a candle to La Perla Tapatia! Their chips? Not too thick/not too thin. Their salsa is perfectly between spicy and mild. Their service is the absolute best, and has been for years. They bring the food out fast, and literally everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. You can’t beat the prices, either. My two year old son even loves this place. La Perla will forever be our go to!
