We visited 55 South for a quick lunch on our way through the Nashville area and it was incredible. We started off with the deviled eggs and spicy pickles, which were great. Unfortunately the day we visited they were short on brisket, but after trying the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich I was glad they were! The sandwich was perfectly seasoned and the herb mayo helped tone down some of the spice of the sandwich. The seasoned fries went great with their ranch dressing. They had fast and friendly service, I would highly recommend stopping by 55 South if you’re in the Brentwood/Nashville area.
This restaurant is fantastic. The service, food and drink menu are top notch. We stayed in a hotel across the street so the first night it was just a matter of convenience. But it was so good. We actually finished all of our tourism in downtown then drove back for a late dinner the next night. That says something that it stood out enough to repeat on a vacation weekend.
We saw Guy Fieri visited one of these in Nashville & decided to try it! We were so stuffed! We ordered deviled eggs… they were just like the ones I make at home. We ordered fried green tomatoes that were fantastic!! We ordered the oysters which were so delicious!!!! Kids ordered shrimp & broccoli and then burger & fries. Was a lot of food. The adults had red beans & rice with catfish. The fish was amazing!
Boy what a surprise. New Orleans right under our nose. The soups were to die for. If you are using the soup as an appetizer, I'd advise ordering a cup. The bowl is really too big to accompany an entree. The Remixed Po Boy has fish and shrimp and is colossal in size....switching up from potato chips to a french fire side, makes it big enough to share if you've had an appetizer. Super fresh...great choices and equally fair prices make it worth a gander. We are going back to try some of the other mains they offer made New Orleans style! They also have mini beignets which come with a side of raspberry compote. I'm a purist about eating them with just the powered sugar, but the raspberry sauce was very good if that's what you fancy.
The food was just okay. The brisket Ruben sandwich was kind of weird--I guess not my taste. Husband got a burger and said it was pretty good.
I love a good Red Beans and Rice and this was an excellent Red Beans and Rice. The Catfish, was piping hot and was exactly the the dish needed for a good pairing. Some wouldn’t think this being a good dish, but those folks and go pound salt. If you know you know. Chooo chooo, all aboard, next stop Flavortown, TN.
Breakfast tacos and chicken and waffles and doughnuts with powdered sugar in a bag, all good.
Amazing shrimp and grits!
I am insanely critical of restaurants — as a former food/bev manager, I have high expectations.55 South is a truly great establishment. Well managed, excellent food & drink, and service that is as good as you will find these days. The Crab Fries were truly fabulous & the seafood was fresh and delicate. I highly recommend for lunch or dinner, but the lunch service is particularly well run.
Very good, food & beer selection
