Wow. My son and I had a delicious meal here. Everything we ate was mouth watering. Having grown up in Japan and currently living in NYC, I eat sushi twice a week. This place truly is a hidden gem. Even the authentic “Godzilla” decor was a treat! Love it!
The service is always friendly at Sumo. Wait staff is attentive. Sometimes the food takes a little while to come out of the kitchen, but it's worth the wait. Fresh and tasty. Order an appetizer and have a little conversation if you want to take advantage of the time. Especially convenient to anyone visiting the SD School of Mines, and the eastern side of town.
Surprisingly good sushi being across from a college campus. Great service, good food. Will absolutely be back whenever we visit our kid at college or visit the local monuments.Parking can be a little tricky given its proximity to the Mines, you might need to walk a couple blocks to find a space, but not nearly as insane as the main downtown drag.Most of the international foods restaurants in Rapid City are Midwestern bland and not really that great, in my opinion, but this place is totally worth it and wonderfully flavored.
I absolutely love sushi. Good sushi is hard to find. Coming in here though the decore was awesome. Looked very clean and well put together. The employees were nice and respectful. The food, absolutely spectacular. The sushi had so much flavor and looked good as well. Will definitely be going back and recommending.
I wasn’t expecting any decent sushi in South Dakota. This sushi was totally fine. No complaints. I tried the sushi place available in Sioux Falls a couple weeks ago, and it was no good. This place is good and if you’re in the mood, come give it a try. In addition to sake, they also have local beer and seltzer on tap.
Wow. Mind-blowing experience. We started our trip here and everything since has been a disappointment in comparison to this place. The spring rolls are the best you'll ever have. The sushi rolls could not have been better in any way. The mochi ice cream was just the cherry on top. Please go here. Please.

Sumo's has always been a favorite place of mine to go whenever I go out for the past 4.5 years. I have never had a bad experience and the sushi and all of their other food has always been amazing. Compared to my experiences at the other sushi places around Rapid, Sumo has very fair & affordable prices, better & faster service, and the most welcoming atmosphere & decor. If you go to SD Mines as a student, this place is a must for when you want to treat yourself. If you live in town or are stopping through while seeing the hills, definitely stop in. You will not regret it.
