This place is what Perkins wish they could be! The staff is friendly and courteous. The booths are comfortable and are cleaned before you get there. They have a nice menu layout with plenty of variety. The cost of said meal is fair and quite reasonable for what you get! Best of all, the food is tasty and good quality! The negative would be the soup and salad bar sometimes can be germ trap when they are swamped with customers and can't maintain the area as well as they should. This is a really solid choice for a family wholesome night out meal!

The food here is pretty good for what is essentially a diner. The service was very efficient and Madeline was very friendly. We would definitely go back. The menu is huge and there are a lot of choices. There were at least 8 different pie flavors!

It took me a while to get around to the Millstone. I like to try new things, and the food at the Millstone is definitely nothing new. But some people like that. It's decent enough, and the atmosphere is wholesome, nostalgic, unpretentious; the food modestly priced. Restaurants like this are less common in this decade; the soup & salad bar, now also a rarity in today's food scene. They were out of a number of things during our visit (including the special). Some items on the salad bar were laughable: scallions, onions, and chunks of cheese so big as to be impractical -- as though prepared by a 6 year old with all thumbs. But our server was amazing: so patient and upbeat in the face of a senior client-base with unending questions & complaints.

This is a quaint family-style restaurant with friendly service and a great little salad bar! We actually ate here twice during our 4-day stay in Rapid City; once for dinner, then again for breakfast. Both of our experiences were wonderful. We were seated quickly on both visits, given menus, waters, and our drink order was taken and filled within a few quick minutes of being seated. The servers, and really everyone working there was very friendly and helpful. You can tell they care about providing great customer service! The food is good, too, though a little garlic butter on the steaks or on the side would be a nice addition. The salad bar had everything a person could want for salad fixings, plus had fresh cantaloupe, honeydew melon, pineapple, bread pudding, cottage cheese and more. Breakfast was delicious, too! The biscuits and gravy hit the spot. Overall, we were very happy with both of our visits and would definitely recommend to others!

Very good breakfast. Large menu. The skillets are their specialty. The hash browns were slightly plain but everything else was great.

I love that the Millstone is locally owned. This location in particular was very quick - despite it being Sunday, our wait time was only 10 minutes and our food came out quickly. From the hostess to the server, everyone was so sweet. Water and coffee was refilled frequently. They definitely pay attention to you here! I ordered the Rushmore skillet, and my server actually apologized for it not being served on a skillet since apparently everyone was ordering skillet breakfast that day. It was totally unnecessary but I appreciate that she acknowledged it - maybe some people are adamant about skillets being served as such, but I only care about the food! It was just as delicious as I remember (haven’t been here since moving out of Rapid City 10 years ago) so I’m very impressed with the consistency. You always know what you’re going to get when you come here!

Polite service, got food quickly. The soup and salad bar has a good selection. The Rueben was great!

Chocolate malt on point. Salad bar is a little rough. The spinach was less than desirable. Granted it was the end of the night...but it was neglected. I had the monte Cristo. It was alright, just not what I was expecting. Mashed potatoes were a little dry. I did have a good time chatting with friends. Next time I might just get a malt and fries. Wait staff were friendly.

We were passing by the city and decided to stop here for breakfast. There lunch and dinner looked great as well. It was a great decision to come since the food, service, and overall quality of the establishment is great. Everyone enjoyed their meal and we honestly had no complaints. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great breakfast options.

Classic Rapid City breakfast spot. Locally-owned and operated. Been a family staple my entire life. The Black Hills Skillet is our favorite. Substitute toast for pancakes though?
