Best Mexican food I’ve ever had!!! I’m from Virginia and over the years I thought I just wasn’t a huge fan of “Mexican food” because it seems to taste the same no matter where you go. But El Sombrero is by far the best I’ve ever had. The queso (when you can get it) is AMAZING! Has the perfect amount of cheesy and spicy flavor without being a regular dull plain white queso. I got the steak fajita burrito and it is sooooooo delicious. The portion sizes are also huge!! So be prepared to wear loose pants or take home leftovers! Would give 6 stars if I could. Would go back to Rapid City just for this restaurant ?
This was one of our favorite meals in rapid city. Small restaurant in a strip mall. Inside is brightly decorated. Had a nice basic drink menu of mexican beers, margaritas and sodas. The menu is pretty extensive and portions are enormous. The burritos, tacos, carne asada and taco salad were all outstanding and authentic. Staff was super efficient and friendly. Lots of families with children were eating here as well but it was not disruptive. Highly recommended.

The menu is extensive, and all of our selections were excellent. The server was very attentive and responsive. The food and atmosphere was authentic Mexican. We had a great dinner!
really really good - our server was amazing and our food came out super fast!! dishes were authentic and flavorful, alongside being absolutely GIGANTIC!! I enjoyed the pork tamales the best and would highly recommend them :)
Service was great our waitress was very cheerful and attentive. Our food was good, the salsa is mild but excellent flavor . Good value
OH MY GOSH! This place is amazing!!!!!! My family stopped here while vacationing in the Black Hills. My camaron enchilada was one of the best things I've ever eaten, and my family was a big fan of their food, especially the street tacos. The chips and salsa were also great. Highly recommend stopping here!
Best carne asada street tacos in Rapid City. Nice grilled flavor. Friendly staff. Clean establishment. Colorful décor.
The food was good and the prices reasonable. Service was good and quick and my drink was kept filled which is always a good sign. Fair warning though if you want to pay with a card they add almost 4% to your bill. I did not see this listed anywhere except on my bill when it came. Other than that the place was good and I will be back, next time with cash.
When in Rome do as the Roman's do, as I travel I often rely on reviews to point me in the right direction. EL Sombrerro is by far the #1 place.for good mexican food. The reviews do not reflect this but showcase another due to it convenient access to downtown bars. If you want good food come to El sombrero. Local secrets, ask for beans to go with your chips, delicious. Grund beef tacos will keep your tacos crunchy and the carne asade is my favorite. My wife loves the chicken fajitas, they are good. Great atmosphere, localy owned and operated.
