In the past We loved Nacho Hippo. Now with even two locations in Myrtle Beach it has become too successful. From a 40 minute wait for dinner to their great nachos loosing the edge it is a sad site to see. The wait staff was still great and we had a fantastic bar tender but torn menus, worn surroundings and the food just not up to where it once was, we next time might try another place.
Had the hungry hippo nachos today they were fantastic! They seated a huge group in no time. Our order went in a little late but it was worth it. If you want something from the hippo store you pick it out and pay at your table.
My family and I tried Nacho Hippo for the first time during our annual MB vacation. I really had high expectations based on what I’ve been told and reviews. Service was incredibly SLOW. I get most places are short handed right now, but when you have little ones it makes it very difficult to wait forever on your food, drinks, etc. Chips were super stale and I was brought another order of them, which were a little better. I requested no pico/guac on my nachos and they were covered in it. My family was almost done eating before I got my corrected order. The mixed drink I ordered was the best thing about my experience.
This was our first time trying Nacho Hippo. We were not disappointed. The best mexican food we had while at Myrtle Beach. The service was a little slow, but our waitress was very polite and accommodating to our party of 7.
I’m town on vacation and gave this place a try. Let me start with the good. Service was great and the food was delicious. Ordered the bbq nachos and the pork was sooooo good The only downfall was my adult beverage. Tasted very watered down and was not enjoyable. Ordered a margarita which is always my go to especially when ordering nachos and tacos and it was a huge let down. The frozen bags at the grocery store taste better
Last nigh we went to Nacho Hippo around 7:45pm and was told by the hostess the wait was an hour and a half. My husband did not want to wait that long outside or at the bar - it was crowded and we had children with us. So we decided since we live close by, we would come back a little later. An hour later we were told by the same hostess that they stopped seating. This would have been our first time visiting your restaurant and it will probably be the last. If we had actually stayed and waited the hour and a half it would have been 9:15pm. We left and came back because we wanted to try your place and was turned away at 8:55pm. This is not good business practice!
We always stay at North Beach Resort so coming to Nacho Hippo is a must on our trips. The food is always so good and the service is great!! I got the Macho Nacho and added banana peppers and it was amazing! We sat at a table so we did not have to sit up at the bar but my son wanted a hippo from their gift shop so we had to go to the bar after we ate to pay for it. The bartender was not very friendly so if you go, maybe stay away from the bar. The live music was a nice touch and it wasn't too loud.
Pretty inside. Nice bar. Food was good, but very hard to cut chicken with plastic silverware. Seated outside, but had no where for us inside even though there were empty tables when it came a steady rain. Great music. Regular Margaritas were average at best. Nice, friendly wait staff, but couldn't make suggestions on what food to order. Will give it another try sometime.
Overall really good. Get the nachos and you won’t be disappointed. Portions are huge. My only disappointment was the layout and indoor outdoor design of the restaurant.
