Ate at the Hickory Tavern in NMB on July 4th and was disappointed with the service. Waited 30 minutes for seating of party of 4, which got us to the table at 5:55pm. The waitress came to the table and we were ready to order drinks, appetizers, and the meal immediately. There was a BOGO burger special until 6pm, but the waitress wouldn't honor it even though it was 5:58pm. She said she would get in trouble with the manager because it was so close to the cutoff. 1 of our party orders a philly cheese steak, but the waitress says they are out. And the chicken penne is out too. OK, we ordered appetizers, burgers and chicken tenders. 5 minutes later the waitress comes back and says they are out of chips for our appetizer. OK, we pass on the appetizer. She brings the drinks and we wait. And we wait. The restaurant has at least half of its tables open. The servers are standing around. At the 45 minute mark we flag her down to cancel the meal, but she says the burgers are ready but not the fries. OK. Burgers arrive 2 minutes later without the fries. 3 of the 4 of us finish the burgers, still no fries. OK. My wife asks to forgoe the fries and to have their cost taken off the meal. 2 minutes later 4 plates of fries arrive. OK, we eat our fries by themselves since the other part of the meal is gone already. The waitress apologizes, but there's no gesture of a desert or anything else to make ammends for the poor dining experience. 90 MINUTES FOR BURGERS. OUCH. Overall experience was a 2, so be aware that this place should not be near the top of your dining list during busy times.
We got the shrimp tacos, the classic tavern burger, and a build your own salad. It was all delicious! We leave Myrtle on Sunday, but we’ve decided to eat here atleast one more time before we head home! Very happy with our experience.
The charred wings are FANTASTIC, we went back twice in one week just for the wings. The service was good and prices are decent. I gave 4 stars because the rolls for the cheesesteak and the chicken blt sub were too small making it hard to eat.
The restaurant is very cute inside and outside. We chose to sit outside since it was so nice outside. We ordered the kids quesadilla, Diablo burger, Buffalo chicken sandwich and Santa fe bowl. The tots were a little overcooked. The Diablo burger was perfect and the pretzel bites were very good. The Santa fe bowl was very disappointing, the rice was very sticky and mushy and the chicken overcooked and dry. All plates were cleared but that one because I didn't eat it. The server never asked if I liked it or if there was a problem.. I feel like he should have offered me something else or at least showed concern.
We decided on this Sports Bar so we could have cold beer and televisions available to watch the Stanley Cup Playoffs. We were treated with cold local craft beers by the great recommendations by the staff. We had the queso and chips for an app and huge Cobb salads for dinner(which ended up being also lunch the next day). Very friendly service. We did not feel rushed at all here.
I am conflicted. The service was fantastic but the food was okay. My husband got the pork tacos and mac and really liked both. I got the bbq chicken nachos.. and I did not like them. Nothing wrong necessarily, they looked delicious but the chicken should be shredded and bbq sauce on tortilla chips is just a little weird. We will try it again sometime and order something different.
Very nice experience. Great for friends and family. Really nice kids menu, which is always super helpful. Food is high quality and served in excellent time. Definitely recommend and definitely will be returning.
We had never eaten here before and was worried about it tasting like ordinary "chain" restaurant food. We are so glad we follow through with it. The food was amazing, over the top. The portion sizes are large and easily have leftovers to eat later. The atmosphere was pleasant, the TVs were not obnoxious, there was a good view of the TVs from any seat in the restaurant. We came on vacation this time with other adults but I can see us bringing the grandkids here next time. No one was standing around playing on their phones, everyone was busy. Tables were cleaned quickly. This has risen to the top of our list of "must do eats" when we visit.
A friend and I eat here every Wednesday. Everything I have ordered has been excellent and the service is always great. I did have a problem with the Fish being overcooked one time and the manager took care of it. If you have an issue here or at any restaurant let the manager know before you leave are eat the food. It has always worked for me.
We have vacationed down here for years and now live here (work from home is the best). I live just two blocks away but I'd drive to get to them. More of a sports bar than a "tavern". Great selection of beers, on tap nonetheless! The bartender typically knows them all and you can get a taste if you're having trouble deciding. I've never been treated less than royalty here, great service. Haven't tried much on the menu but you and I know how difficult it is to pull off a decent chicken sandwich and theirs is I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E. I promise you'll go back for the atmosphere, bazillion tv screens, seating, staff and ... just go visit.
