I love this place. It's a real hidden gem. You select what sort of base you want- rice, lo mien or my fave Udon. The you go to a buffet of fresh items and they cook it right then. It's so delicious and they have SO many choices. I wish the ingredients were a little more consistent (what can I say- I LOVE water chestnuts) but that's probably more supply than anything else.Oh and you get all sorts of sides too! A great deal.
We find the food here to be very good for the price and the people to be friendly. The all-you-can-eat hibachi allows you to select an appetizer, a sushi roll, and then select your own veggies/meat/seafood to be custom grilled over your choice of rice or noodles and then repeat if you wish! The dining area is not amazing, but we go for the food. Cost for 2 is around $38 plus tip.
My boyfriend and I have been coming here for a few months now and have never had any problems before. The usual lady that serves us is amazing and super helpful. The food has always been served on time. Today was a different experience though. To start, my food took about an hour to be ready because the kitchen lost my order apparently. It was just vegetables over steamed rice which seemed like it should be a quick order. It was very slow so I know the food should have been out quick (maybe one or two more people in the restaurant at the time). But, that was the least of my worries. The manager working today was not very friendly. I picked an edamame off my boyfriends plate who ordered the buffet and she sent one of the kind waitresses over to tell me that we can’t share the buffet. This is all while my vegetables and rice had been MIA for about 45 minutes and I was starving. The two waitresses were amazing even though I did not catch their names. I believe they are both new and did a wonderful job. One thing that stuck out was the fact the waitresses do not get any tips for their hard work during their first few days of work. They were so much more welcoming and kind than the rude manager who probably got to keep the tip for herself even though she did not serve us or do anything kind for us. With this going on, I wonder what else they do unfairly to their workers. My boyfriend and I are considering not coming back because of the manager on duty today. Like I said, normally they are fine, but the usual lady was not there today so maybe the manager from today thinks she can change things around and be rude whenever she’s not here. I give two stars because we have never had many problems before but today was a really bad experience.
This is my son's favorite place to go! He loves the sushi and the hibachi. You pay one price and you're able to pick out different types of sushi as an appetizer and build your own bowl for the hibachi. If you are still hungry you can build another bowl. For him I feel like it is a deal. It is about $17 a person. For me it is not as cost worthy. I have picked out appetizers from the appetizer menu and for people who do not eat sushi, the appetizers are disappointing. The hibachi is wonderful. You build your own bowl so you get it exactly the way you want it. I love that but I only eat one bowl. So I have heard that you can pay a different price at lunch on weekdays to only have one bowl. But if you go at dinner time or on the weekends then you have to pay the higher price.
Let me just say, what an AWESOME concept they have here at Taste of Tokyo! They let you build your own ingredients bowl to add to rice or noodles, on top of unlimited sushi, all for around $20!!! It all tastes great and really is an amazing deal. I’ve brought friends and family down here and time after time again they all love it! I’d recommend giving it a try.
I’ve eaten here many times and the food is usually great. However we ordered lunch from here today. I got the veggie bento box (hibachi tofu+ veggies, avocado roll, steamed rice, edamame) I shared this meal with my toddler. I now have food poisoning!!!!! Literally in the bathroom, crying, in so much pain, food poisoning. I’m praying my toddler didn’t get it because I can’t imagine her feeling this pain. Will absolutely never eat here again. Saw another review about employees not washing their hands - i don’t doubt that’s what happened with my food.
This restaurant is excellent. My girlfriend and I always get take out from here but we tried dinning in tonight. Buffet style without the buffet so you select your ingredients and the prepare your hibachi fresh for you. Like a Japanese steakhouse without the show and company around you that you don't even know. Lol. The owner and daughter were very kind and helpful throughout. Small place and a ? in the rough on Montague Ave. Very healthy and well cooked orders with an easy atmosphere. We will be back.
Originally meant to go to the Tropical Grill next door but they were closed down. Thankfully my work mate and I decided to give Taste of Tokyo a shot and boy was it worth it! Very very fresh food. The Teriyaki Chicken Wings were killer and our server was very attentive. Absolutely worth it!
Not really sure how this place got a higher than a 1 star. It seems that the photos posted does not reflect what the actual place looks like. Maybe because they are just reopening due to the pandemic? I had a couple of sushi but it did not taste fresh. It actually tasted like a gas station sushi. I got sick that night. Gave two stars because the staff was respectful.
They were open when most were closed for New Years. Normally I support restaurants closing for New Years to give folks a break, but this time I appreciated that someone nearby was open since I was at a hotel nearby. Good food prepared quickly.
