I’m hoping this review makes some think twice or ask questions before sitting down at Nigel’s on a Monday. We stopped by for lunch last Monday. We were greeted and seated right away, given a menu and our drink orders taken right out the gate. When drink were delivered and we looked through the menu the waitress informed us that Nigel’s was out of some items. Those items included pretty much ever side dish on the menu. Mashed potatoes, potato salad, Mac & cheese, yams, Lima beans, stewed chicken, cornbread and cobbler. I’m thinking why would you even be open or why not have a sign on the door, why seat us start to serve us and then basically tell us you have only French fries, rice, and grits before you locked us in and started delivering services? My husband orders pasta and I went with a hamburger steak and white rice with gravy. My food came out and the patty was kinda loose or breaking apart when it was plated, about a quarter of the way in the inside of the patty was RAW. I call the waitress over she removed the plate immediately when she came back the kitchen decided that in place of my hamburger steak that had peppers and onions mixed in they would give me a regular kids size hamburger patty and then put a few onions on top of it. Needless to say I was offended. I left the plate untouched and asked for the check. The waitress asked what was wrong and asked if I was unpleased because the kitchen manager gave me a small hamburger in place of what I ordered. I expressed all of my concerns even about being bait and switched from the time we walked in. The waitress said Mondays are rough because they don’t have people to prep after being off on Sundays and they have a truck delivery on Mondays so they are often out of stock on Mondays. I won’t be back waitress was great, everything else about Nigel’s makes me wish we had spent our money with a business that is prepared and professional. This is an example why so many don’t keep dollars in our own community.

Nigel's Good Food has great food I'd say! This black owned restaurant gets my “food for the soul" stamp of approval! When I am in Charleston SC visiting, this will be a spot I'll be sure to have to visit!-The fried shrimp and fish were cooked to perfection with great flavor.-Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes were on point!-Gumbo had very good flavor, plenty of seafood/sausage/chicken/veggies-Hush Puppies were moist and seasonsed well-The service was great and the staff was very friendly. There is good seating and a nice bar as well. Dine in and carry out as an option.Photos Complimentary of the Google Pixel 6 Pro

We had the Jambalaya and Fried Shrimp platter. I got sides of greens and Lima beans. We had the cobbler for dessert. Everything was very tasty. We would have gone back if we had the time.

WOW! SOOOOO GOOD! I can definitely see why it’s a North Charleston institution! If you want truly delicious, authentic Southern soul food you must to go to Nigel’s in North Charleston. It’s a small place and in fact you may drive right by it, which is what we did. Plenty of tables inside and service is very friendly, fast and efficient. We arrived a few minutes before 5 o’clock and were immediately seated. However, 15 minutes later there was a line out the door. I’m telling you the food is to die for. I had fried pork chop cutlets, macaroni and cheese, cornbread, hush puppies and yams. I cannot tell you again how delicious it was! Truly homemade, freshly prepared.

Over an hour wait for our food. One out of the four meals was completely ice cold. The other 3 meals were good (why I gave one star instead of zero). Service was severely lacking. We were brought our meals with no silverware and when we asked for silverware were told there was none-mind you our food was not able to be eaten without silverware. Finally after asking for to go silverware we were brought plastic cutlery that could barely cut through the food. Never offered a refill of drinks. A different server brought our check without asking how the food was, if we needed anything else, or if we wanted dessert. Sadly we will never be back. It was terrible to say the least. We did notify staff of the issues and no resolution offered, just met with a blank stare. Worst $100 spent on dinner.

For this type of restaurant off the tourist path, the food doesn't get much better. Located in a strip mall on Ashely Phosphate road, it doesn't seem like much. We arrived later on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was mostly full. We were able to capture a table with some help from the server. First the food. The Pork Chops were probably the best I've ever had. Perfectly fried with the right mix of seasonings. The fried wings were huge (turkey wing size) and perfectly done. Sides were equally delicious. Service did need some help. Ordered Geechee wings that never came (thank goodness, the main meals were very large) The bill was incorrect, but easily corrected. The waiter gave us our sweet tea as compensation. On my next trip to Charleston, I'll go out of my way and visit this location again.

Delicious soul food! Highly recommended!I ordered the pork chops and they were fried to perfection!

Nigel's Good Food on Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston is a great place to go for some of the most delicious and flavorful food in the area. I really like the location and laid back atmosphere that they have available here. I have really enjoyed every meal that I have had from here.

My wife and were visiting Charleston and decided to dine at the North Charleston restaurant on Saturday evening. The dining room was full. We were told that there was an hour-and-half wait for a table. We were also told that we could get food a lot faster if we ordered online for take-out instead of waiting for a table. So we placed an online order, and waited at the restaurant for our food to be ready. We received an email saying that our order would be ready in 30 minutes. While we waited several other people came in and asked for tables. Seated customers were finishing, and leaving. Those people who arrived after us were seated within 15 minutes... not the 90 minutes that we were told. But we had already placed an order... so waited for our food. It took over an hour for our online order to be ready (not the 30 minutes). Plus, we were not given the collard greens and lima beans that we ordered. Instead we were given two orders of cabbage. The cooked cabbage was so salty that it was not edible. The gumbo that we ordered was not gumbo. It was 80% white rice. There was hardly any ingredients of gumbo... it was essentially a container of rice. Needless to say, we were disappointed, and had a very poor experience.

I was recently on business travel to North Charleston from the Upstate with a group of coworkers. When I travel, I make it my mission to eat like a local. I found this restaurant through the reviews on Trip Advisor and it did not disappoint! The shrimp and crab ravioli was delicious! Service was great as well. We bought a bottle of wine and enjoyed! The Ashley Phosphate location is about 5 mi from the central location of most of the hotels in North Charleston - abt 15 mins during rush hour - and it was 100% worth it.
