This is a difficult review to write because there were several positives and negatives and I want to paint an accurate picture so you can make an informed decision. First the good - we went on a busy weeknight and were told it was a 90 minute wait which was totally expected. They texted less than an hour later that our table was ready - bonus! The hostess was great and our server was really nice and accommodating. They even had live music until 9pm - we wished it would have been until 10, because the singer was awesome. The restaurant has a really cool vibe. We got our appetizer - buffalo chicken dip - first rate! So far, so good. Then the trouble started. Food took a bit longer than expected, but not a big deal. A second server brought our food from the kitchen and spilled salad dressing on my pants - not cool. Our main server apologized profusely. The food had a pleasant appearance, but was not hot. As we thought about it, our guess was that it sat out before being brought to the table. In fact, mine was so unpleasantly cold I could not eat it. Server again apologized profusely. I didn’t want to wait on a new dish, so she offered to speak to a manager for me - and they definitely made it right. Very satisfied with the response, which is why this review is difficult. Management did what they could under the circumstances which is exactly what you would hope for any similar situation - so thank you for that. However, at the end of the day, the food was brought out barely warm and in general was underwhelming. I really want to like this place so we will likely try again next time we are down and hope they have their kitchen process tightened up!
A lot to choose from on the menu and reasonably priced. We had 16 in our party, aged 9-70yrs, and there was something for everyone. The service was stellar. We did have an hour+ wait, and they explained it was a staffing issue, but it didn't matter, we bellied up to the bar for drinks and appetizers. Service at the bar was great too!
Sadly, the Grumpy Monk disappointed us. Our server was great and the manager was kind and helpful after we brought to their attention the quality of the Mahi Mahi tacos. They were cold and the tortilla seemed stale. They certainly responded well to the situation and offered other items. The rest of our food was just ok. Not great. Unfortunately, we likely won’t return to this spot when at Broadway in the future.
Not much to say about this place other than that it is like most of the other restaurants at Myrtle Beach….over priced with mediocre food. I got a chicken sandwich which was cut in half. Each half had ONE TINY chicken finger on it so the sandwich was mostly bread. Everyone else at the table had a similar experience….meh food at best. Our waitress was ok and refilled our drinks once.
The Grumpy Monk at Broadway At The Beach in Myrtle Beach is a great place to go for delicious food and drinks in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating to make sure that you have everything that you need. Really good experience every time I have been here.
The service and atmosphere are great but the food is decent at best. You can find better burgers anywhere else on the beach. The fries are good but you don't get to many. The flounder was tasteless and dry. The place has great potential but the food needs some attention.
We came here for a late lunch while shopping at Broadway at the Beach. I got the French Dip and my husband got a make your own salad. You get to pick 4 things to add to your salad and then, for a price, you can order chicken, shrimp, or other meat. My husbands salad was huge. It was the largest salad I have ever seen. They didn't skimp on anything. I got the French Dip. It was mostly grizzle but mostly warm. The role was nice and soft. Our server was very good and attentive. The fries were wonderful. I'm not a big french fry fan but these was tasty and soft on the inside. Maybe I just got the wrong thing but I wasn't impressed with my meal.
The portions are huge. We ordered crab stuffed halibut, pecan crusted chicken, sushi, shrimp and feta salad, and fried pickles. Overall the meals were excellent. The pecan crusted chicken with a honey glaze…delicious. Loved the sushi. The fries could have been crispier. The service was top notch. Our food was taking a few minutes longer than expected and the manager made a point of letting us know. We’d definitely eat here again. The beer selection is average.
I really wanted to like this place. We came as a recommendation from a friend who lives in the area and he raved about it. I wanted sushi, but he said that’s the only thing he wouldn’t order from here, so I didn’t get anything because that’s all I wanted. I decided to share with my hubby. He ordered some kind of poutine sandwich with meat. I ate his side Cesar salad the poutine had sliced cheese on it. What the heck is that?!
We stopped in for lunch on our recent Myrtle Beach trip. We were seated on the deck which is fun; watching zipliners and the trick boats. We were amused by a duck that had nested in one of the flower planters. The beer menu being in an app is irritating. I just want a beer list, not to have to search by brewer. That may be a personal gripe :) My husband loved his burger w/BBQ sauce and onion rings. It was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. My Greek wrap was good but was missing some sort of sauce.to make it better. Service was sketchy at best. We didn't see him often. Overall, it was fine and nothing unexpected in a touristy area. Exactly what you think you'll get at a chain restaurant.
