Just recently stayed at this resort. The resort has some good qualities and some bad qualities. Good things about the resort: Pools, splash park, putt putt golf and arcade my family really enjoyed. Pizza Shanty and breakfast at the restaurant in the North building was good. Bad things about the resort: We stayed in a two bed oceanfront room. View was nice but the room was very out dated. The furniture in our room was extremely old. I tried to put our clothes in the dressers in the room and when I opened up the dressers they had a terrible musty smell. We had to leave our clothes in our suitcases all week on top of the dressers. No maid service at all (according to the paper with our room keys) due to covid. I am fine with picking up after my family and making the beds, but having to go downstairs to the front desk every night to ask for towel or extra toilet paper when needed was a little much. They would not even pick up your trash. You was asked to take your trash outside of the resort and put it in their dumpsters. We stayed on the 10th floor, so when I needed to take the trash out I had to carry the trash down from the 10th floor and walk about a block to throw my trash in the dumpster.
Worst Vacation!!! I have never written a review in my life but feel like someone should know Vacasa is the worst business I have ever dealt with in the hospitality industry. You can fly out of the country and back during Covid easier than renting from Vacasa. This was my first time renting from Vacasa and our first time since Covid that our family went on a family vacation. We rented a condo at Sand Dunes (1401 North Tower) for 12 family members. We were given the code to get in the door just like the confirmation email stated we would get on the morning of our arrival. That is the only thing that happened that was good or correct. When we arrived 7/9/22 I went upstairs to a filthy room with dirty towels and linens from the previous guest. I called Vacasa and was told they would send someone over to clean it and we would receive a call when it was cleaned. We got the call (40 minutes after my initial call). I was skeptical about the cleaning job that could have been done in such a small amount of time and the condition of the condo when we arrived. We went back to the condo. No one had been there. We had no other choice but to put our luggage on the balcony because I had to go pick up the other family members at the airport and needed to be able to put theirs in the car. On my way to the airport, I was on the phone with Vacasa for over an hour when my sister-in-law text me someone was there to clean it. When we arrived back at the condo, my sister-in-law noticed only 3 of the 6 beds had comforters. I called back to Vacasa again. In the mean time, we found a list of things wrong with the condo and some were listed as not a priority. Comforters were on the list along with a washer that was loud, iron not working, hairdryer in hallway bath not working, refrigerator leaking and several other things. All marked not a priority. When I told this to Vacasa the lady seem surprised. I don’t know if she was surprised from us finding the list or it was these things had not been taken care of. I was apologized to again and told this property had been managed by another manager 2 days prior to our arrival and told they would create a ticket and send someone over with the comforters. Creating tickets were things we came all to familiar with during our stay. That night some of us had to sleep covered with beach towels we brought from home. The next day, we waited for someone to bring comforters and at 7PM I decided to go buy some because I didn’t want another night without sleep and beach towels as our bedding. The next morning we were going to the pool and was stopped by the attendant and was told we needed wrist bands. Clearly on the description of the condo it states no wrist bands are needed. I am telling this to the attendant and he finally allows us to enter because I told him I would call Vacasa once we got to our chairs. I spoke with a manager (Brittany) this time and explained to her everything that had happened. I told her I wanted money for the blankets I had to purchase and wanted a refund of my money. She was not overly apologetic but did get me a cleaning fee and my blankets refunded. Also got us wrist bands delivered to the condo. On to the towel situation. We only had 12 towels, 12 washcloths and one kitchen towel and washcloth. Every night I would wash and dry them so we could shower. Yes the list was correct. The washer was very loud but at least it worked. Monday night the dryer broke. So that meant we did not have any clean towels for the rest of the week. I called Vacasa (Shaniqua) again and requested towels and washcloths to get us through til Thursday when we checked out. I asked for these because I knew asking for a dryer was going to be a stretch if they could not pull off getting comforters. I was told I would receive enough to last us and was apologized to again. Also was told I would get my booking fee refunded. The young man/courier brought over 12 towels only. He stated he was told by his manager to bring 12 towels. I got back on the phone with Vacasa and was told someone would bring us more towels and washc
I have stayed here before and had sworn not to come back after last year. Should have done so. My three bedroom condo came with only two parking spots so I had to use metered parking for a third vehicle (unexpected). In previous visits, arm band gave access to the entire resort including next door (North Shore), where an adult pool was located. When I tried to get in, I was stopped and told that I had the wrong color band (went to the office and got a new one, never was asked again, but never wore it). Experienced "waterbugs" in the room(asked for it to be sprayed but it was not done) . No maid service all week, had to wash our own towels and low and behold, we all came home with head colds. Sorely disappointed. What a great trip!!!
Rooms are very dated, and not really cleaned or kept up. Parking garage super small, not good for 2 cars going opposite directions. Would advise finding a spot in the lot and not in garage. Would advise bringing your house shoes as floors were super dirty! Also if you decide to stay here book through resort to get access to all the amenities. The location though is outstanding and the beach access is so convenient.
When we first arrived, the staff member was very rude. I used to work in Customer Service and this is HUGE. You are required to be nice to anyone no matter if you have a bad day or not. Anyway, the room was beautiful but the floors were NASTY. Turned everyone’s feet black. We had to sweep and mop all of the floors. They only allowed us to have 3 rolls of toilet paper for 10 guests. Come on! We didn’t mind to wash and dry our own towels because we wash our own clothes before we come home anyway. The man we talked to at the front desk was nice but told us wrong about the Park Mobile for the Parking Meters. We were told we could pay $50 the whole week instead of having to pay $15 a day for our third vehicle. We ended up having to pay $15/day due to Park Mobile said they don’t allow you to pay one lump some for a whole week. Also, if you can’t find room in the parking garages and you only have the option to park down outside of the rooms or parking garages then you end up with a parking ticket even though you have a parking pass! We did enjoy the activities that the resort has to offer BUT, you have to walk forever to get to those activities. There were a few marks on the walls that could have been cleaned thoroughly and a couple of dead bugs we had seen in some rooms. I don’t think the cleaning people do a nice job, honestly. The day we were checking out, the lady that was coming to clean our penthouse was told to clean it when we haven’t even checked out yet which made us feel rushed. We were told we didn’t have to check out until 11am, which means we had time. I wouldn’t recommend Sand Dunes Resort in Myrtle Beach to anyone. It was okay, but definitely wasn’t the best experience. Sand Dunes, you have some work to do.
I booked a suite for 6 people. The pictures showed a full size refrigerator and the description only referenced a "refrigerator". We were surprised to have only a mini frig which is not big enough at all for 6 people. We were only given 4 towels and had to request more at the desk then explain why we didn't bring our old towels back before wanting new ones. There were no paper towels in the kitchen and no drying cloth. We had to go purchase paper towels. The resort description is oceanfront and while it may be it doesn't specify that certain buildings may require a three block walk to the beach. The overall pictures and description of the room and resort, I felt were misleading. You enter the suite through the bedroom which my husband and I felt lacked privacy. You could also hear everything going on around the room at 1am and we were on the end of the hall. Our room was supposed to be ocean view and we could barely see the ocean from one corner. The website shows the different amenities offered but doesn't explain how far a walk between everything it is.
Kitchen poorly stocked. Hard to cook. Hand only a hand operated can opener that was barely able to cut opener can. No towels brought each day (blamed that on Covid). We had to take our dirty towels over to desk EVERY night for cleaning ones. They were out of washcloths one night. We're told to empty our own trash and, again, had to go to desk to get new trash bags. Staff rarely smiled or really offered to assist. The morning we were leaving housekeeping was there at 9 and stood at door watching us pack and load vehicles. Very few cleaning supplies on the cart. Would not recommend the Sand Dunes Resort Villas to anyone.
We rented this condo for our family vacation. We liked the location and easy access to the beach with all of the kids. We has 3 families staying and the space wasn't quite big enough for everyone to fit comfortably unless in our rooms. The room was clean but the dishwasher didn't clean our dishes. The front door didn't latch unless you slammed it shut which would wake anyone sleeping. The numbers on the keypad would stick making it hard to unlock the door. The parking was a nightmare. Garage was way to small and once you reached the end there was no way to turn around. The open lots are limited and tight in areas. The elevator doors would close on you before you could fully get into it. Part of our family actually got trapped in one when it broke down and the call button didn't work. Thankfully one of them had their cell phone to call out for help. The front desk told me to calm down and all they have to do is push the call button and someone would have came to get them out. The door had to be pried open to get to them. 2 out of the 3 elevators were down which made getting one almost impossible. We booked through vrbo so had to figure out for ourselves where to go to find our room. The buildings are poorly labeled and had a hard time figuring out which one it was. When we tried asking staff if we were in the right place they responded with no English. All 3 family's agreed we will never stay here again.
This is the most horrible resort ever! DO NOT believe the photos on line they make this dump look wonderful.. I’m not even sure where to begin.. rum smelled horrible I had to go buy car fresheners and a plug in to stand the stench! The sheets on the beds don’t even look like they were washed when I complained they said they had to wait for the truck to bring linens , truck never came apparent because I’m three days in and still no clean sheets! So I bought my own! The kitchenette has no plates or bowls! I can’t get towels, toilet paper or garbage bags… they never have any!!! I don’t think I have seen a cleaning person here yet! No manager here and the parking sucks!!! No one makes sure the resort guest are the only guests in the pools!!! Hot tubes don’t work, pools are so cloudy you can’t see the bottom of them!!! I’m going on every site I can to post reviews about this place!!!
THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. If I could give a ZERO rating I absolutely would. The water did not work for hours one day, the toilets didn’t work ALL THE TIME. Parking was a NIGHTMARE. The light bulbs were out in every room and the “ocean view” consisted of the parking lot looking over another resort and minimal ocean view. DO NOT STAY HERE. The staff was hardly helpful too. Spend the extra money and stay somewhere else. There are tons of family friendly resorts in Myrtle Beach that are WAY better.
