Fantastic food! Chef Sean was concerned with us being a party of 8 including children but accommodated us easy. Online ordering was so cool and allowed us to easily order a little at a time. Would definitely go back regularly if lived in Charleston. Thank you Chef Sean!

Not welcoming at all! Guest have to scan the QR Code on the table as well as order and pay on the phone. No personal interaction, recommendation of food or explanation (spicy or not)! But he is a chef! A chef, in my opinion, cares about his guests, not just his food! No one ever checked on us. Totally disappointed! The food was overpriced, and my husband‘s dish too spicy. Good restaurants allow the guest to choose his/her level of spicy-ness (from mild to hot). At Kanpai - total failure.

Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. I will say it was a bit pricier than my normal sushi taste, but I think it’s almost ruined sushi for me in the best way possible. I wasn’t so sure about it to start, but after my own personal 3 rolls and seeing my friend get the chefs choice 8 course meal, the price became instantly worth it. I’d recommend this place to anyone who asks. It was delicious and the chef was super kind and entertaining every-time he stopped by the table. I will be returning!

Food was absolutely fantastic! The fish is extremely fresh and the hand rolls are so creative and unique. The salmon nigiri was the best I have ever had. Owner is also very nice and customer service was great.

Went for Sushi and they only allow ordering from a Scan at the table The rolls were mediocre and after paying $114 for 3 rolls and 2 seaweed salads they wanted to charge me for a request of a little bowl of Spicy Mayo In my judgement a rip off and no Sake!!

Each trip to Kanpai is a highly anticipated treat for me. This time I decided to order off the Korean portion of the menu. I had lived in South Korea for 3 years and have been disappointed in the quality of Korean food in Charleston. That ended at Kanpai. I chose the Bulgogi meal and my wife chose the Sashimi sampler. We both decided to share an order of Korean Cheesecake. The Bulgogi was tender and flavorful and had all of the subtle notes of flavor that I remembered. Hint:. If you can't taste pear in your Bulgogi, it isn't properly made. The rice was properly cooked, slightly sticky and was domed onto my plate by inversion method. A pickled radish was placed as a side and was perfectly done. My quest for authentic and delicious Korean food is over and I don't know why I haven't ordered it here before. Next time I am going to get the Dol-Sot Bibimbap, which is served in a sizzling stone bowl so that the rice in the bottom is cooked to a crisp. The Korean Cheesecake is to die for. Nothing more needs to be said. The green tea powder sprinkling was unexpected and complemented the cheesecake perfectly.Again, I will return.

I thought this restaurant had the best sushi in Charleston, no more. Nigiri starts at 10.00, 11.00 for the mackerel it goes up from there . The Toro was meh. We shared the scallop crudo so precious, ONE scallop sliced thinly as it should, that was 18.00. Twenty dollar corkage fee par bottle, for dropping off five glasses , and providing no service. We spent 500.00 for five and left hungry . We arrived at 5:30, service took forever to get acknowledged. There were four other people in the restaurant. I have never had an issue paying for quality, but everything here is too precious and quite frankly no warmth from the staff or chef. This was not our first visit, but it’s our last.

It’s the best quality sushi in Charleston in my opinion. Family ran business and they tell you up front that they are understaffed currently so it may take some time with the dinner. My fiancé and I will go back again and again!

Slow service, high quality ingredients, a fairly short menu without much variety (lacking simple rolls), overpriced.

Incredibly fresh ingredients. It is great to be surprised by a really good meal.
