The best local food I have found yet. Everything is mostly homemade with incredible flavor. Definitely will be back soon.

On Thursday, July 14, 2022, I had the good fortune of having dinner here with my brother and his wife while they were in town. Our visit was the spur of the moment with an hour and a half before closing. I did not know this until I called and was told that as long as we arrived before closing, we would be seated. This right here created my first thought of just how awesome this place had to be…but of course, we arrived much sooner than that. When we exited our vehicles, my brother stated how he knew this was good food coming because the smell was in the air from the parking lot! Two plates of fish and chips, shrimp and grits, fried chicken livers, green beans, collards, carrot cake and some drinks later, we began to slip into the southern cooking coma! Our server was very pleasant, easy to talk to and we couldn’t have asked for a better representative for that restaurant. The Root Cellar is my new favorite place. I am so disappointed in myself in that I always venture out to other areas when the diamond in the rough is right here in my own backyard. If you visit this establishment, please…please don’t pass up the opp for tasty, tender chicken livers that you will NEVER find any where else! Guaranteed! Love this place❤️

Fantastic food, great service. Very tasty and filling. Fried green tomatoes come with a really good red pepper relish, it's a must try! Starter, main (came with 2 sides) and a desert plus alcoholic drinks, and still <$50 per person.

Oh my goodness!! Fried boneless chicken breast, covered with white gravy and on top of yellow grits. Oops, I forget the appetizer of fried chicken livers.

Was traveling from rural SC to Lexington and came across The Root Cellar on Columbia Rd. What a find! Friendly staff. Wonderfully fresh food especially the delicious strawberry bacon salad dressing. Enjoyed the hot honey chicken sandwich but there were many other choices that sounded delicious. Am already planning to visit this restaurant again and this time it will be intentional! Highly recommend.

This restaurant had really acoustics. It was very loud and was increasingly worse as it became more crowded. It was quite difficult to converse which was aggravating because the food took forever to arrive. The server was nice and the vegetable selection tops. 2 or our 3 entrees were spot on.

My husband and I tried this place a few days ago with family for the first time and the food was phenomenal. I had the 8oz. Fillet, my husband had the 14oz ribeye. Both were medium rare and came out perfectly with a char on them.Fried chicken livers, collards, loaded potatoes were good. Highly recommended to try.potato.were good

Food was good but had to knock off some stars for the service.Had to ask multiple times for drinks refills. Waitress forgot to bring salads before the entrées. Got sides incorrect. Had to ask for Togo containers 3 times times.Only downside to the food were the grits were very plain. We all know if you don't cook them with salt it's very tough to get them right.Might try again at a later time.

Very good food, nice atmosphere, nice staff.

The food was great! We had the grilled chicken sandwich, the buttermilk batter fried chicken with grits, and the fish and chips. The kids had the kids cheeseburger and the kids grilled cheese plates. The atmosphere was not great. It was outdated. But the waitresses were all very attentive and friendly without being in your face. I do have to make a special mention on the most amazing grilled cheese sandwich ever seen or eaten. It was one of the kids plates. Everyone at the table wanted it when it was served. Just wow! And the grits too. Even the grit-haters loved these grits. Definitely coming back and have already recommended to friends. Thank you Root Cellar for a really good lunch.
