The service was great, the food was pub fair with no flair. It looked tasty but only the chicken wings had something going for it. The Chicken Salad melt created chewy chicken pieces and what they call raw fries are potatoes chips but they were undercooked and not very crispy. The fish sandwich did not have the same beer batter as the fish and chips and that would have made all the difference. There are pools tables to enjoy and a nice bar for a drink. But I would not come just for the food.
In a quaint little bar/pub. The service was friendly and the food was very flavorful. Some of the best sweet tea I’ve ever had. It did take a while for the food to be prepared but it was fresh and worth the wait. Open late so gave us an alternative to Waffle House. Menu is limited.
I spent a week in the Columbia area hiking at Congaree National Park and I had done some research about local digs to sample their food and brews and Publik House was recommended. I immediately hit it off with Drew who was a fantastic host and gave me some insight as a local of other places I could go. I had already read about the wings and raw fries at Publik so I was anxious to try them out. They didn’t disappoint. And even though the menu said you could only get one sauce for 10 wings, Drew put in a good word so that I could sample two different sauces. I especially enjoyed the unique pterodactyl sauce, a combination of teriyaki and barbecue. REALLY enjoyed the food and good hospitality.
My hot wings with extra sauce were dry and bland. I mentioned it to the waitstaff, all she could do was bring a cup of extra sauce. Why the extra sauce couldn't be tossed on the wings when they were finished cooking is apparently unheard of.They used to do great wings, but not anymore.Okay, some explanation. I've been a patron of the PH for 25 years, it was always a place I enjoyed - good friends, good beer, great wings. But apparently over the last few years they've changed the way their wings are prepared. Instead of messy and wet with sauce, they're dry. They're not messy, in fact they aren't anything. I think if I had some of their hot wings and some plain wings in front of me, blindfolded I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.I'm sad to say that I don't think I'll go back. Sorry Publick House, but there are other places in town that have equally good beer and atmosphere, but much better wings.
We got takeout last night and the wing special was $17 a plate. Shocked. The wings weren’t hot, we weren’t given raw fries, but instead were given regular fries that were cold and not fully cooked. The blue cheese tasted like mayo. Won’t order from here again. Way too expensive and the food was terrible. Used to love PH.
Been here twice. Both times wings were great and consistent. Highly recommend the wing chips and the hummus, too! We will def be back anytime we visit Columbia. This is not a place that advertises for kids (that I know of, at least), but our kids thoroughly liked their orders and playing games while we were here.
The wings were crazy expensive last weekend, so I tried the Philly cheesesteak instead. It was alright. Hope the price on wings normalizes soon. Service was great.
Drinks are reasonably priced, but don't expect much from the food. Portions on appetizers and shareables are small. The wings were dry.
Slow service due to staff shortage. My order came out incorrect and it took forever to get the correct order. Server was friendly and sweet. Kept apologizing for everything going on.
Nice place to blow off some steam. Good cold drinks
