The food was amazing!
My favorite place to eat, when you go it's not to eat but for the experience. It is definitely a chefs restaurant with a chef that takes it very seriously. All of the produce used is from the Charleston area. The service was great and always had everything I needed, I have seen other reviews where people complained because they thought since the quality of the food was so high they expected better from service or so they say. The restaurant it self has a very industrial feel. I really enjoy the chef's counter where you can watch all the food be made and talk to the chef's about the dishes. This is definitely not a place to go to every week unless you have the money. It is a place that is worth every penny, if you have the money!
Sorghum & Salt is one of those rare places, especially as a vegetarian, where 5 stars doesn't seem to be enough. There should be a sixth start available, only for the very best of the best restaurants...they'd even ask you "are you sure" when you selected the 6th star, just to make sure you weren't overusing it. Sorghum & Salt was a six stars experience for us. Especially as vegetarians at a non-vegetarian restaurant, to be so well taken care of with food that was perfect in its artful presentation and thoughtfully chef-curated taste.Lots of small plates/tapas places have a couple of dishes that shine. Everything we were brought here was just as elevated as the one that came before, so it would be hard to pick a "favorite" or any one thing that rose above the rest. They were all THAT good.We had almost every vegetarian option available including Chorizo Spiced Beets, Watermelon, Snap Peas, Little Gem Lettuce, Marsh Hill Rice Midlands, and Cheesecake. Don't let the simple names like "Watermelon" and "Snap Peas" fool you...these were not simply dishes with those ingredients on a plate, but really extra elevated complex tasting flavors with all the ingredients used to create the dishes. These dishes were among the, if not the very best assembly of these ingredients we'd ever had. When we were talking with locals (including one woman who runs a culinary walking tour) about where we had eaten in town, when we mentioned "Sorghum & Salt" there was always a reverential "you did good" response from them. We had a lot of great food in Charleston...nothing surpassed the 6 Stars nature of Sorghum & Salt. Now if they could just open up in our neighborhood in Southern California we'd be in very good shape.

Excellent vegan options. Everything was fantastic.
Oh my goodness!!!! This restaurant itself is a solid reason to visit Charleston. Forget about FIG, you should give yourself a chance to try chef Tres Jackson food - farm to table, mind blowing combinations (cucumber and mussels, pea and white chocolate), amazing representation and good quality local products. We ordered tasting menu (6 courses, $80 ) and it was the best meal I had in Charleston (despite visiting FIG day earlier). Now I have a reason to be back!
We were very pleased with our dining at Sorghum and Salt. It is a breath of fresh culinary air. We experienced tastes we have never tasted before. . . that is hard since we have eaten at some really great places around the world. Dove, our server/chef, was outstanding and the service was a 10! We HIGHLY recommend it!
Good service. Small place. We enjoyed the food. Nice presentation. I think it was a bit over priced for the serving sizes. We had the ricotta with focaccia, carrots, midland rice, eggplant, short ribs, and for dessert we tried the beet as well as cheesecake. The crust on the cheesecake was delicious!
Staff very attentive and food has excellent blend of flavors.
What an amazing place, off the loud main streets of Charleston with great decor and even more outstanding food. It was great to go and have a good option of delicious vegan options (The Chorizo Beets are worth driving three hours to get them again). And the specials for my non vegan family were raved about. Definitely go here, the staff is wonderful as well!
