I'm not sure why everyone is saying that the food here "used to be" good. Look at the date of this last review 09/20/21. We just went there last night 06/04/22 & it was fantastic! Yes, it looks like they re-did the menus but I think it was simply a matter of aesthetics, because all the dishes looked the same. I ordered the chicken lettuce wraps w/ peanut sauce for an app & for an entree had Tangerine tofu. My wife ordered the Pancit w/ tofu. My chicken app was cooked perfectly & I washed it down w/ a bourbon sour that wasn't too sour & was also very delicious. My tofu was cooked perfectly & the glaze/sauce was perfect. Sweet, w/ a little bit of heat, but nothing crazy. My wife asked for the tofu in the pancit to be cooked "well done/crispy, & it was also executed perfectly. The portions were generous, plenty to go home with, & the waitstaff were friendly & attentive. Don't let covid ruin your life, go out & experience this place now. It is still good!
I have been a customer of Red Orchids for many years, and have always worked through their service discrepancies just as you do with any F&B establishment- when the food is normally pretty good! However my visit on Friday 4/1/22 was the final straw. I brought in a fellow business owner that is new to town, and he ordered his dish and found a long piece of a steel pot scrubber in his food. He remained quiet, while I told him I would have them remake it just incase he wanted to try the dish later and get a true experience of the food despite this huge discrepancy. I called over the manager who was more concerned with getting the steel wire off the table than she was with remaking the dish. Next, she has the cooks to remake the dish and she brings back a bill for the full price of the entree.I asked her why would she do that, and that I knew it wasn't the standard of Tony and Kelly (owners). She responded and said she wasn't authorized to comp a $10.95 meal so she apologizes for the inconvenience and responds in a very sarcastic and condescending way.How insulting is that!!!! This guy could have ate a piece of steel metal and choked and died, or even took this photo and gave it to his attorney after already probably eating a strand of metal or two...and a $11.00 comp has to be brought to your attention? It's the absolute least you could do.Totally embarrassed, and the fact that she responded continually with such assurance and sternness made me feel that she knew Tony and Kelly would stand by her decision. That's it! No more!I've spent thousands in that place over the years and this is how you deal with metal in food? METAL!!!!! Not hair, not paper...but METAL. We even stayed an extra 20 minutes to give her some time to think about how ignorant she sounded.Her response as we walked out- "Have a good day".
I'm confused as to why this place doesn't have higher ratings because I truly believe it was some of the best Chinese food I've had in all of Charleston. My wife and I came in for dinner, and we were quickly seated. We really liked the ambiance and the chill music they had playing. Service was great, and our server gave us good recommendations on the menu. Prices are all very reasonable and I was very surprised by how nice of a bourbon selection they had (although some of those prices are a tad steep). I ordered the Generals chicken, and it came out very nice and crispy. Really flavorful and the sauce wasn't overly thick like I've had at other places. The quality of chicken was very good, and it was cooked perfectly. My wife ordered the pancit and was extremely happy. I appreciate that they have so many gluten free options. I'm really excited that we checked this place out, and I'm looking forward to exploring more of the menu.

This place is great, love the atmosphere and the Asian cuisine was amazing, we had all different dishes for a 5 person family and they were all exceptional! It was a very busy Friday night and our waitress was not bothered at all, very helpful. And I’d just like to say to one of the reviews below, if someone offers you a child booster seat and you don’t like it for some reason, you can always leave….no one is making you eat at the establishment, it’s your choice. We should be nicer too the restaurants that are open as they are all struggling to stay open with the workforce the way it is right now so maybe just stop being a jerk :)
I have been in Charleston far too long to not have tried this place sooner. Their menu items are fantastic. I can usually narrow down a menu to two items but this one has so many amazing options. I went with the tangerine chicken because it was recommended by a friend and boy was it delicious! My boyfriend had a pork dish and said he had never eaten anything with that flavor before. Portions are large! The spot is smaller than I expected but I showed up without a reservation and they were able to accommodate me. If you have a larger party, I'd highly recommend reservations.
Love this spot, stop by after most of my shifts Katie the bartender is amazing and owner Kelly is also very nice. Food is amazing.
Consistently amazing food and service. The ice cream they sell in pints is some of the best ice cream I have *ever* had if not the best flat out for the unique variety of flavors and their excellent execution.
Food was great, service was good. Had a problem though. Our 1st visit as out of towners who came with locals who come in regularly. Ordered 2 appetizers, only got 1. Kept waiting for calamari but never came. When we got the meals (5 of us), we told server to take the calamari off the bill. He was surprised we didn't get it & apologized. But wanted calamari so left underwhelmed.
Delicious as usual. We almost always get the Black n Red Snapper. Tonight it was perfectly cooked. only complaint was the portion size was much smaller than normal.and yet the price went up to $41. Wow.
