We were going to be in Charleston for an event, so we decided to give Rancho Lewis a try. We had read how busy the restaurant could be for dinner, so we were excited that we would be in town for the first day the restaurant opened for lunch. We arrived at 3:00 and had no problem at all getting a table. We were really looking forward to trying Rancho Lewis asits sister restaurant, Lewis Barbecue, is our go-to barbecue restaurant, serving top quality food in an attractive setting. As we found out, the same could be said of Rancho Lewis. The restaurant is nicely decorated with both indoor and outdoor seating. We were served a bowl of tortilla chips before the meal, and Rancho Lewis has a salsa bar serving three outstanding salsas. My favorite was the roasted pepper salsa. Our food server offered to bring more chips as our meal progressed, and we enjoyed the warm tortilla chips before and during our meal. There were four in our party and we ordered the following from the lunch menu: Christmas Burrito, Red Chile Beef Enchiladas, Chicken Enchilada Verde with Beef Picadillo Taco, and Rancho Fajitas (chicken and beef). Everything was delicious! I ordered the fajitas and the chicken and beef were cooked to perfection - tender and juicy. Following our meal we ordered Sopapillas for dessert. Four sopapillas come with an order, so we each had one to enjoy. The sopapillas came warm and were served with warm mesquite honey. It was a perfect ending to a delicious lunch.
Well, I have been waiting for a taste of TX in SC. I already knew the wait would be long, just not use to the bar being the same wait?Anyway, on to the appetizers. Guacamole was good a tad salty but still good. The queso asado was very good, that will be great for football season. Real chips and salsas very good, you get to pick your own from a station that is set up. Very helpful since I don't care for over spicy. I will ask for a little chili powder to sprinkle on my chips. My part of West Texas, we like that.I had the beef enchiladas the filing and in-house made tortilla great! The sun-dried red chile sauce was very spicy to me? I had to ask for some sour cream. When I took some of it off the top, it was just right. My girlfriend had the chicken enchiladas, she had the same problem spicy. Beans were good and the rice was the best since I have been in Charleston nice and fluffy. Her husband had the fajitas! The best taste and cut of meat I have every tasted on a fajita. The sopapillas were nice and hot and airy. They said mesquite honey? We said molasses. ? it was nice and hot! The instruction sheet on how to eat them what a cute idea.I will be back, a lot more things to try. Thank you Lewis for bringing TX to SC. Your BBQ now Mexican food.
Loved my experience at Rancho Lewis! The atmosphere is awesome. The Lewis team did an amazing job with the inside, but the star of the show was the food. They make their tortillas in house. I had the steak fajitas. They were by far the best fajitas I've ever had. The steak was thick and seasoned perfectly. The margaritas were also a high point. I had mine with hatch chili added to it. I highly highly recommend Rancho Lewis!
Steak fajitas were incredible. The steak is actual sliced perfectly cooked strips , instead of the little dinky shreds you get at most Mexican joints. The beans were excellent. Food outstanding overall.I would have given 5 stars if the bar was first come first serve, as it should be.The hostess told us we had an hour wait (Wednesday/party of 2 , 7:00pm), and that it included the possibility of sitting at the bar, which was cool with us. We went to check with her after waiting 45 minutes and she said “yea we can sit you at the bar”, the bar had ample seating, she just forgot to come get us.?Open the bar seating up. Otherwise great job!
If you've experienced Lewis 's BBQ, you know what John Lewis is about. Hearing of the Rancho Lewis concept, I anxiously awaited the opening with high expectations. They were all met, and in the case of the ribs and wedge salad they were far exceeded.Ordered the queso asado, the wedge salad, mesquite ribs, beef enchiladas, and sopapillas.Every single thing hit. All of it. At a very high level. Which is what I expect from John and his team. Those ribs are the best dish in Charleston. Also the best thing I've ever eaten. Hyperbole? Absolutely not.The mesquite wood comes through perfectly, the char, the tenderness, the sauce, the beef fat melting in your mouth, all made for an experience that is second to none.A must go, as soon as you're able. Great job Lewis team, from the decor, the service and the food, A+, 5 Stars, 10 out of 10, all of that and some. Can't wait to go back.
It’s great to be able to get real breakfast tacos. And not many in Charleston understand green chile the way they do here.
Omgosh... Mind blown!Quesadilla Rayas and both types of tacos were my favorite. The sauces are out of their world!!
The best spicy queso around. Food not greasy like other places. The beef and the chicken tacos are so tasty.
Love this place! Food was great, staff was friendly and courteous, outside dining was fantastic!
Best Tex Mex I’ve had since living in Texas. However they use all disposable plastic plates, plate lids, cutlery, and cups, while offering no way to recycle/compost.
