We had an excellent experience here! We made a reservation which proved to be necessary as they were turning away walk ins. The setting was nice and clean, just slightly cramped but to be expected in historic Charleston. The pimento cheese fritters were a perfect appetizer. Very creamy and flavorful (a nice change for this cheese stick loving girl). I had the chicken and waffles and it’s no exaggeration when I say the BEST ever. Our server was fantastic, attentive and prompt and everything was spot on. We’d definitely visit here again.

Went with a group for a late lunch in May. Poogans has a comfortable atmosphere with great southern comfort food options at reasonable prices. Our waitress was very polished and answered all of our questions. We decided to share biscuit and gravy, fried green tomatoes and fried okra appetizers. They were great, the fried okra really was the best we had on the trip. I opted for the famous fried chicken with black eyed peas and collard greens. The chicken was great and no way I could finish it. The collards were excellent too and I almost wish I had gotten an extra side of those. No chance on dessert but maybe next time. Enjoyed the place and make sure you ask about the history of the place as there is a story there!

This restaurant was recommended to us by a local and it did not disappoint! The Zoe’s coffee is great!

This is my 9th review for our trip to Charleston and my ONLY negative review. We had a dinner reservation and we were seated promptly. The bus boy was friendly and attentive. These two things were the only positive part of our experience. The Fried Green Tomatoes were bland and lacked any flavor. For a Southern dish, I'd expect more. Our entrees were okay but nothing to rave about. One of my friends described the food as "disappointingly average". Our server, Eric, was, as my other friend described, a "pompous ---". She described her whole experience there as "uncomfortable and awkward". While we were all still eating, one of the wait staff tried to take my friend's plate while she went to the restroom. Last but not least, I am a seasoned traveler. I have no issue paying for good food. However, Poogan's Porch is way overpriced for less than mediocre food. If Southern hospitality is pretentious and unfriendly, then Poogan's succeeded. As for the food, we ate at several fabulous restaurants in Charleston with an excellent Southern flair, so Poogan's is clearly missing the mark. Thank God Poogan's Porch wasn't our first introduction to Southern hospitality or Southern food!

Had a wonderful lunch here this past Sunday! The restaurant has a small cozy homey cute vibe. There seemed to be a wait when we got there so this must be the happening spot for brunch. The Fried Green Tomatoes was a great appetizer—the bacon jam for the dip was so delicious! Really enjoyed the Shrimp & Grits (with poached egg for $2.50) and Country Fried Chicken—both huge portions and very tasty! Our cocktails were great as well!

Really nice staff but very Underwhelming shrimp and Grits, in a Word WATERY. The waffle is as good as a hotel free waffle you make yourself, especially for the price. A real turnoff was the Parking fee of $17 that is NOT validated by the restaurant. On a good note the chicken was good.

My wife and I recently visited Charleston for three nights, as a short getaway. We stayed in the French Quarter of historic district where there are so many great restaurants. Our hotel was also in the French Quarter, we have stayed there about 4 years ago and decided to return as the location is just great to have everything so close by, however the sit down breakfast at the hotel has been replaced with a grab and go. We really enjoy a prepared meal for breakfast so we checked out Poogan's Porch. The charm of the historic site give you that Charleston feel that adds to the experience. We did have a reservation, so my recommendation is to make one, even for breakfast as these small establishments have limited seating. We were early in, just after opening for breakfast and they filled up quickly after we arrived. We were greeted upon entering and promptly seated, indoors was our choice. You can have a seat on the porch but it was a little hot that morning. Our breakfast was simple, bacon, eggs and potatoes but there many other menu items. The biscuits that were brought to the table when we sat down were great, just enough sweetness and the honey butter made them even better. Our server was Sidney, very friendly and attentive. We were not in any hurry, she took our order, kept our glasses full and brought the check when we were finished. Poogan's serves breakfast lunch and dinner. We went for breakfast but will definitely plan to return on our next trip for dinner. We prefer independent restaurants over chain or corporate establishments. I definitely recommend Poogan's for the atmosphere, the hospitality and the food. Our meal was a simple breakfast this time, and judging by the overall experience I am optimistic other meals there will be great!

We made reservations thru Resy. We arrived and where seated promptly. It is a small menu as you see on line. We had a glass of wine while looking at the menu. We decided to start with the she crab soup. It was only luke warm, very thick and heavy. Kind of like a thick bisque. I had the specialty fried chicken which were parts/pieces of chicken. They where good. My wife got the chicken fried pork chop but forgot to ask for the gravy on the side. It was smothered. Her pork chop was tender and moist under all the gravy. We ended with a small piece of pecan pie which was tasty. Service was ok. Initially our server thought we only wanted one cup of soup, but they quickly brought out another. I also suspect they forgot about our dessert order as we waited quite a awhile till our server noticed and he darted out and came back with it. This was probably our least favorite dinner for the 3 nights in Charleston.

This a really pretty restaurant. The food is good but not great. The staff is very friendly. The pecan pie was excellent. The she crap soup was very good. The fried chicken was ok but a little dry.

A short 1/2 hour wait because we didn’t have a reservation but worth the wait. Very friendly staff and delicious food and wine. Their rolls were the best!!
