I went to Mex 1 with my mother after being in Charleston and wanting some tacos. The ambiance Is very nice and I loved it: they had cool posters, lights, and a industrial type of ceiling. The staff was very nice and helpful! We ordered 6 tacos (2 Carne Asada, 2 Cantina Chicken, Carnita, and a Crunchy Beef) and the street corn queso. First of all, the chicken tacos texture was very weird and not flavored whatsoever in the photo I put you can see it’s not even colored. The carnita taco was very fatty and not a strong flavor as well. The crunchy beef taco was very tomato-y and not flavored. Can you see the pattern? The carne asada tacos were dry and was not as as seasoned but was the best of all. Over all everything was very mute. I personally like very strong and spicy food so I was disappointed. When we told our waiter that it wasn’t what we were hoping, he got someone who I can only assume was the manager. The manager then asked us what we didn’t like and what was wrong. My mother told him what we didn’t like and then he explained why they taste/feel like that. He is a very nice guy and seems to accept criticism very well. Over all I will not be telling people to not go there but, I will not be going there again.
Liked:Salsa had great flavor and was way better than a lot of free salsas I've had. The chips where very fresh and salted just right. The street corn queso was packed with flavor and corn, definitely worth checking out. I had banging shrimp, carnitas, and cantina chicken tacos. I enjoyed them all.Disliked:Tables packed into dining room offered little space to maneuver for us and the staff who were constantly having to squeeze through. My date took one bit of her banging shrimp and said she didn't like it. It looked slightly different than mine. I tasted it and it wasn't as yummy as mine. She said all her tacos were cold, 2 of mine definitely were. I think the food cold was a product of slow service - maybe they were shirt staffed or maybe our server was oversat. Conclusion:Food was good and I would eat there again.
I ordered 3 different tacos. The only one with flavor was the shrimp taco. It’s probably because you can buy the bang sauce at your local Walmart. The shrimp and fish came from the same no seasosoned batter. I don’t understand how this place has so many good reviews.Very disappointed.
Tied for best nachos in the area! Their homemade queso is amazing along with the homemade chips. We live to get the bangin' shrimp tacos and love trying their new stiff
Great place to hang and chow down! The carne asada fries fries are to die for!!! That gravy sauce is so good and the steak was perfect!! Will definitely be coming back!!! ??
Mex1 was delicious as always. We've been coming here for years and the food and service are top-notch. Today our server was Lexi and she was friendly, attentive, and very prompt. She even anticipated our drink and chips refills without our asking. We highly recommend the Banging Shrimp tacos. We are loyal patrons and will come back often!!
Always a great option for a local neighborhood place. The food is always fresh and the flavors are fun. The service has been off the past year. It’s likely because of the times, but there are other local places that don’t seem to have the same issue. Even with this, it’s still a place we’ll continue to frequent.
Food was delicious, service was great, indoor and outdoor seating. Our party sat outside. The weather was perfect. We went during restaurant week which was 2/$35. 2/$12 drinks.
Came in for lunch today and greeted with a smile. Our server was excellent and enthusiastic. Our meal was great, with leftovers too. Will go back here again. Thanks
Omg their food was amazing! And who would've thought it with the looks from outside. The parking lot was slammed, the atmosphere was great and our waitress was excellent.Loved the outdoor seating and each dish we got.
