Traditional southern / Charleston establishment. Been around for over 30 years. Shrimp & grits was delish, as were the fried green tomatoes. Can't go wrong with your order.
This was our second day in downtown Charleston and didn’t really know places to eat. We drove down E, Bay Street and saw this restaurant. I looked it up on Trip Advisor and saw the good reviews. We walked in, 4 sisters new in town..we didn’t realize you really needed reservations. The hostess said we could sit at the bar and eat. We did find 4 seats together. We came in at 3:50 and we’re told that they start serving at 4. The bartender, Lee was so nice and patient. The bar area was quiet enough that we could enjoy visiting. There was a good Variety of items on the menu. I opted for the Parmesan Crusted flounder that came with a delicious rice dish with the vegetables chopped up in the rice. There were even shrimp in the rice. The fish was outstanding. One sister ordered this but asked for it grilled, which they accommodated. Another sister ordered the fried chicken with gravy. It was a huge serving and very tasty. Another sister ordered the crab soup, scallops and a salad. That was also delicious. Everything we had was excellent. This is a very elegant restaurant. We are going again next year and will make a reservation.
Had dinner here our first night after a long day of traveling. An established and attractive restaurant that seems to be back on course after a recent kitchen fire had it closed for some time. Some of the best fried green tomatoes in the area and the Down South Egg Roll is an interesting tasty appetizer. The Firefly Palmer is a sweet and refreshing cocktail after a day in Charleston's heat and humidity. We had the Low Country Bouillabaisse and market catch which were both well portioned and satisfying. The pecan pie was good if not memorable. The service was casual and friendly but attentive. Despite having made a reservation more than a month in advance we were a little disappointed that our table for two felt tucked away in a corner. On the plus side it was private and quiet which made conversation easy. Would certainly consider on future visits to Charleston.
Absolutely wonderful experience! We got lucky and were seated for lunch without a reservation. Bella, our excellent waitress, was knowledgeable, made great recommendations and was a joy to talk with!
We had dinner here and the restaurant is semi formal although attire was very mixed amongst the restaurant’s clientele ranging from shorts to suits. The food here was very good and they had a strong focus on Southern food which is why we picked it but with a broad menu so there should be something for everyone. Portions are very generous so I recommend sharing unless you are both very hungry. We ate here and Husk and preferred both the ambience and food here. Service was friendly and prompt - perhaps overly chatty for us but nothing overbearing. Recommend booking as even at 5.30 the restaurant was almost full.
Our party of three had a wonderful dining experience at Magnolias. Wine selection was first rate, atmosphere was delightful and our server was wonderful. Favorite dishes were the Vegetarian Plate with fried green tomato appetizer and the Low Country Bouillabaisse. Recommended!
We enjoyed our time there. Our bartender was helpful with our questions and random comments. The food was great and we really loved being there
Food is the star here, fresh ingredients expertly prepared. Ordered the shellfish on grits which was flavorful and the seafood was perfectly cooked. The grilled cheese sandwich was also a star, tasty and gooey just right. Ordered the pecan pie for dessert, was very good, just needed a bit of a salty note to contrast the sweetness. All in all would highly recommend.
Terrific menu and wine. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. A wonderful experience and a place we always enjoy. Looking forward to our next trip.
We stayed three nights in Charleston as part of a vacation to the Carolinas. We ate at S.N.O.B., High Cotton and Magnolias. The service at all three restaurants was excellent, but we thought the food at Magnolias was a definite notch above the other two.
