We arrived just as they were opening for lunch. Counter staff knows how to handle a crowd. We had our order taken and the food created right before our eyes. Restaurant is very well organized. Briscuit was tender and juicy, although I really wanted more smoke flavor I liked the sausage but the picked onion didn't have much taste. The collard side was well cooked but also lacked something. I added their green sauce and the collards came to life and became a great side. I don't know why the collards just don't just come that way.

To say the food was amazing would seriously be an understatement. Honestly, several of us questioned if we have ever had better tasting food. My wife, three teenage kids, and I all loved every bite of the food we ordered. I got the El Sancho Loco sandwich and Cole slaw (which is unlike any Cole slaw I have ever eaten thanks to the cilantro, onions, and green peppers). We all shared brisket nachos - incredible! My wife and kids ate pulled pork and a variety of sides - all of it was so juicy and flavorful!

Great southern BBQ place! Really nice atmosphere and vibe, staff is very friendly and their meat is just amazing! If you ask nice, you can have a look at the meat preparations and grills. The pitt masters start at 03:00am with grilling/smoking the meat. You can sit in or outside and buy their legendary sauces and merchandise.

We had some friends recommend Lewis BBQ so we decided to check it out when we were vacationing in Charleston. I don’t think we would have ever found it if we wouldn’t have known it was there. We went about 2 and till had to wait about an hour for the food. The BBQ was well worth the wait. Everything was very good. We will defiantly be going back. My favorite was the brisket and sausage. The sides we got were also very good. Nothing to complain about with the food.

Almost back-to-back are Lewis Barbecue and Home Team BBQ. Each has its proponents in Charleston. Lewis is better at the meat and gives huge servings. Home Team is better at the sides. At Lewis you have to stand in line and order at the counter whereas Home Team has table service. Lewis is beer & wine while Home Team has a very large, full bar. I wish that I could get the better points of each.

Enjoyed dinner here at Lewis BBQ. Place is super casual and the food is very good. Super tasty. Very busy but things moved quickly. Worth the Uber ride from downtown Charlestown.

Was a little hesitant going here because I am originally from Texas so I know what real BBQ should taste like. After reading so many reviews and having many of my friends recommend this place I decided to go. Upon arrival there was already a line to get in and the parking lot was full. While waiting in line I looked up the place and saw that the owner was from El Paso, Texas. This put me a little more at ease with the decision to try this place. I ordered literally everything on the menu. I wanted to try it everything out and am okay with bringing home leftovers. The brisket was by far the best I have had in a long time. Easily the best in South Carolina. The pulled pork was okay. It was the typical Carolina style and not what I was expecting. It was made with vinegar and was a little too sweet for me. I will definitely be going back again with my family. Brisket - The best Pulled Pork - Vinegar based, too sweet for me (Typical Carolina style) Ribs - also good, not as good as the brisket though Sausages - two types, both were not bad but I won't be buying them again for that price Mac N'Cheese - Would def buy them again! So all in all, I would highly recommend going and trying the brisket and mac n'cheese. You won't regret it.

Line was long but WORTH IT! Grab a beer from the bar while you wait. Brisket was the best (melt in your mouth). My southern grandma would approve of the collards. Loved the ribs, pork, & sausage!

Lewis is the bomb! We 1st tried the other celebrated BBQ place, but everyone preferred Lewis BBQ beef brisket & pork spareribs. Their nachos are good too. There's a line before you order then after you can get a table inside or out. The outdoor seating had a really nice ambiance. Love it!

We enjoyed Lewis’ for our first Charleston dinner. For four of us, we split a pound of brisket, a pound of turkey, a pound of pulled pork, a pint of Mac and cheese, a pint of coleslaw, and we each had a banana pudding. The brisket was outstanding and did not need any sauce. The dressing for the coleslaw was mayo-free, which was unique. The sauces are all vinegar based, so a bit different than more traditional. Definitely recommend arriving early and getting a drink at the bar as the line moves slowly and the restaurant fills up.
