Affordable but disappointingly average food. The waitstaff came off unfriendly, the atmosphere was unwelcoming and dark, the establishment is not romantic and definitely not a place for a date. The bar was closed off by them piling up chairs in fromt of it and turning the lights off. It was disturbing. I had the burrito Cancun which was filled with crab meat and overcooked shrimp and scallops, the nacho cheese sauce was tasty and hit the spot, but the burrito was suppose to have a ranch sauce on it, but instead came out with a brown fajita type sauce on it. The dish also came with no sides besides the guacamole and lettuce, so if you want rice and beans that will need to be ordered seperately. The food was small, disappointing, and didn't come out as ordered. The combo #6 had a small enchilada that was like a 6-in tortilla and not very stuffed, the taco was average, had no sour cream or tomato and was just substandard. There are plenty of other better restaurants to order from.

This place just isn’t the same as it used to be. They aren’t currently serving alcohol (AGAIN) but that’s not why I’m leaving 1 star. The menus had cheese, chip pieces, and other unidentifiable substances stuck on the pages, tables stayed stacked with dirty dishes the whole time we were there. With only 3 tables having customers (my table included) we barely saw our waiter and didn’t get a refill of water until we were already done eating…after waiting for 25-30min already for said refill. Waiter barely spoke to us when he actually did show up. This place used to be a common spot for my family but after tonight we will not return. Service has gone down hill tremendously.

You know, I’ve been eating here for 3 years since I moved here. Sometimes when I’m tired I’ll do taco Tuesday and take it home. Well, I just went in for a nice sized order for multiple people, they now say taco Tuesday you have to pay more than it originally was AND you have to sit there. Nope. Good way to lose customers. Which is probably why they were empty at 7:45pm. I will never give them my business again

My friends and I love Mexican food, and we have been on a budget for some time, so we have always appreciated the affordable Mexican options at la Carreta. However, in the past year, we have noticed significant changes and will no longer be coming back. The waiters are rude, the food is low quality, they always bring us something different than what we ordered, and they have started overcharging for everything. This past time we went, my friend was charged for food she did not order and felt too awkward to correct her because we had already had to correct her so many times. Do not come here. Not worth your time or money.

Used to be my fave Mexican spot on James Island... now it’s terrible. Server got our order wrong not once but twice. Manager was leaned over counter the entire time we were having dinner on a FaceTime call so loud it interrupted everyone that was seated near the cash register. She also couldn’t be bothered when people came in looking for tables. So she left them waiting forever then kept talking and carried her phone with her while seating them. What a joke. Go to Rio Chico... better food and service!

This was just your every day Mexican restaurant. The menu items were confusing even though there were descriptions. And many of the entrees did not come with beans and rice, which I thought was weird. I ordered the fajitas and the meat was served flat and thin and not pre-cut. It was very difficult to cut with the butter knife that was provided. Service was poor and our waiter overcharged me for food I didn't ask for.

taquitos are great and they have their alcohol licence back

Guacamole is perfectly balanced between lime and salt. The margarita pitchers are cheap and server was very attentive. Definitely will be back.

Always fast service and quick to come out despite how busy they get. Get the fajitas or fajita quesadilla, they’re so good!

Food and service was okay. Their pick-up orders are always quick. Still prefer Rio Chico across the road better. Bigger serving at a lower price.
