Our family has eaten at Hyman’s for the past five years. Overall this years experience was favorable. Service and hospitality was excellent. Unfortunately because of the customer service, I have to give this a 2 star review. I ordered the pick 3 combo platter. My scallops were rancid. Inedible and smelled bad. When I notified our waitress about this all I got back was a half-hearted “sorry”. Seriously? I spent over $30 on my order and 1/3 of it was inedible and all I get is a “sorry”. Needless to say we will not be eating at Hyman’s again. A disappointed family from Missouri.
This is one of our absolute favorite places to dine in Charleston. I will never not visit Hyman's because owner Eli, his son Victor and the entire staff are so wonderful, personable and have a heart of gold, The food is exceptional. You will leave full, happy about the great environment of wonderful service and making plans to have your next meal there.
Once again, Good People, Great Food. Some places give you a lot but it doesn't taste good or vice versa, but this place has both. The Flounder is huge. The fried everything is so good. Crab cakes awesome!! The restaurant is deceiving as it's larger than it looks. Great place.
EXCELLENT menu, service, and staff!! I went back and ate TWICE!!! The food is prepared hot and fresh. It arrived to us within minutes.
We discovered this restaurant at the beginning of our trip and ate all 3 nights there during our stay in Charleston. It is casual, and I don't think they take reservations. We had good luck getting right in if we agreed to sit at the bar. The staff was very friendly and the seafood, so good. If you don't like fried food, you might like the sautéed seabass. Yum. Good mussels too.
Friendly atmosphere….Clifton H was our waiter….very knowledgeable and had good recommendations. I would recommend this place to ALL seafood lovers.
The food was great. I had the Carolina Delight and my wife had the crab cake with a side salad. Service was quick and it all tasted delicious. The only complaint, and we only noticed because we sat at the bar right at opening time, was that we witnessed several small arguments amongst the staff. Nothing loud or profane, just little things indicating they perhaps weren’t quite ready for service and openly discussing who was at fault.
Within minutes of being sat and starting to read about their history, their owner stopped by our table to say hello and welcome us. He also gave my youngest son a coupon for a free small ice cream at their store next door. Amazing! He is a 4th generation owner and he said his son is currently cooking. It's been at least 12-13 years or more since my wife and I visited and I recall an older lady visit our table and she said her and her husband were the owners. I believe it must have been the current owners mother, but did not connect the dots at the time to say something. Very impressive food with the personal touch for each person that visits says alot about their culture. Just to add, we visited for lunch due to the dinner lines being so long. This is a must visit restaurant to visit! They do not take reservations, so arrive early for lunch or dinner. Also, most tables have names of the famous people that sat at that table. This time we had Jodi Foster, Lou Holtz, and Martin Sheen. What famous person sat at your table?
Each and every time I come to Charleston, visiting Hyman's is a MUST. I have yet to be disappointed. I was there with my aunt, uncle and father and we all enjoyed our food. When they tell you "no one leaves there hungry", they are not telling you a story. My father & I had the Crispy Flounder with a sweet potato. My Uncle had baked flounder w/ Broccoli & my aunt had a seafood trio. Yum! Yum! Yum!I will most definitely be back. Great job!!
We always love stopping at Hymans when we are Charleston. They have great seafood and it’s a fun place to go. There is always a wait with a lot of people waiting outside. We had to wait about 45 minutes when we went at 5 pm. When we were sat we got our order in quickly and our food was out fast. I love the hush puppies and the boiled peanuts. Our food was hot and fresh. It is a touristy place but we are tourists.
