This is an old school steakhouse, when you enter the building you are transported back in time. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The cocktails we drank were excellent, steaks were cooked to perfect temperature. The side dishes are large portions so get ready to bring left overs home. Only problem I had at halls is the wedge salad, they serve it with a whole slice of bacon on top. How do you cut bacon with a salad knife???
I have heard from so many friends that if I’m ever in Charleston I need to visit Hall’s. I’m so thankful that I was able to heed their advice. The service was spot on. Our server, Emily, helped us through the menu since it was our first time and explained their options. I am so glad she explained the difference between a wet-aged and dry-aged steak, it had me alter the plans I had going in and I stepped myself up to the 16 ounce dry aged ribeye. I haven’t experienced a dry-aged steak in over 20 years and the flavor is unmatched. It almost jumps off the plate and smacks you in the face! We saved room for the chocolate chip skillet a la mode, which was a nice warm blanket to finish of an incredible meal. Here is to hoping I get to check this box again!
Made our reservations over two months earlier. The day of the arrival and forty-five minutes prior we received a call cancelling our reservations because of “power outage “. They didn’t even allow for a reserved table at a early eating time slot. Good news. We found Stax Diner. They were incredible. Maybe Hall’s is getting to big for their britches.
ThIs is a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion. We celebrated our 20th anniversary there, and the entire staff as well as Mr. Hall himself made us feel very special. The wedge salad, filets, and loaded mashed potatoes were excellent. Be aware, however, that the portions are HUGE for the sides (meant to serve 2-4), so keep that in mind when ordering. It is possible to order 1/2 portions of those sides, so keep that in mind as well. Definitely recommend this restaurant as a place to celebrate a special occasion!
Everything was perfect. The ambience was very nice. Our waiter was... Or who... really made the evening special. Andy was knowledgeable and friendly. His suggestions were all spot on. He made sure we were happy and satisfied throughout. By far Andy was a favorite. Our food was delicious. We had a toll house skillet dessert that was absolutely ridiculous...recommended by Andy. We shared and savored every bite. We will definitely go back.
We went for lunch today and it was so satisfying and delicious. Our waiter Kevin was so attentive and spot on and the staff that worked with him took great care of us. When we chilled with an after dinner drink (chocolate martini for me - a first and so yumm) , the table was clean and we just relaxed and enjoyed each other's company after not seeing our son since July. There was no pressure to move on. We plan on eating lunch there again in two weeks before he leaves for Asia. He's in the military - Marines - and we may not get to see him for a few years so this is special!
Probably the best service I've ever experienced in a restaurant. Had to book a long time in advance but it was worth it. Food was excellent, although the price for the steaks was very steep, so it's for special occasions for sure!
We have now been to Hall's too many times to count. But I felt compelled to write another review because the service and the atmosphere continues to not disappoint. This time we stopped for dessert and an after dinner drink. The Bread Pudding is so good, I promise it is to die for. The Blood Orange Margarita is my go to after dinner drink. The entrees are on point and you will love them, worth every penny. Splurge and go here, I promise you will love it.
Best steak I have ever had by a mile! My wife and I love to travel and have been to some great restaurants, but this is in a league of its own. Everyone should get to experience this place. Absolutely amazing!
Splendid from start to finish. Quality of the food and more so the hospitality. All the waitresses and waiters were making sure one has a great time. Billy Hall incredibly nice. Would definitely come back to Charleston just to go there again
