Stopped in here looking for a quick meal before heading to the airport as we had stayed at the Francis Marion. Mid afternoon. Young woman handling the bar and the tables but we were the only ones. Reuben sandwich-YUM! Husband got a salad-easily enough for two. She asked several times how we were doing, made sure our drinks stayed full and reminded us that we could get them to go too. Very nice. Very polite. I’d easily go there again if we were ever in the area. I’m guessing it’s a popular college hangout with the bar. Two thumbs up.
Every time I am in Downtown Charleston, I end up stopping at Groucho's. Its a very relaxed sports-bar type atmosphere, with a wide variety of tasty sandwiches, good service, and solid local beer and upscale soda (Dr. Browns anyone?) selection. If you're looking for an inexpensive, easy place to grab a bite Downtown, this is a good option.
The original in Cola is still my fav location from my college days, but it was still great here. Food is great, service is fast and friendly. A sweet tea and an STP Dipper is still my go-to after 25 years, and it didn't disappoint.
Went in for a bite and it was super busy and they only had 1 girl working with a cook. And she killed it. In town for basketball tourney. Give that gal a raise!!
The service was horrible and the only thing working was the credit card machine. The bathrooms were filthy and had no paper towels. When the staff was informed of no paper towels she handed us napkins. The bread was old and food was not worth paying for.
I love Groucho's salads. I was sad when the West Ashley location closed and completely forgot about the Downtown location. So glad I was able to come and get that good salad they make!
This place is the only restaurant I’ve ever been to that has consistently bad service. One bad experience is one thing, but I’ve been to this Groucho’s about 5 times and there was only once that the server came to us in under 10 minutes. I’ve had a different server every time and yet the service is still consistently awful. Whenever I go there are only 1 or 2 other tables, but the servers always ignore my table until the other tables are completely finished with their service needs (by that, I mean they stand at the counter and talk, only going to the other tables when necessary while ignoring mine and any other newcomers). I would understand if it were busy, but frankly they never are and I think it’s because everyone knows that it’ll take over an hour to get a sandwich that another restaurant could probably make better anyways. I don’t recommend going if you’re actually hungry, but if you plan on sitting around and talking for 30 minutes before getting service then this is the perfect place for you.
Was told 30 minutes before close that they were not taking orders of any kind so they could "go home early" even though the door was open and they were just waiting around to be officially closed. When speaking to the manager, he laughed like the situation was funny to him. This was absolutely unacceptable and the worst customer service I have ever had, even as someone that has worked food and beverage for years.
Exactly what we needed after long day of shopping, great food & drinks we got to sit & relax thanks y'all!!
When I visit the Carolina's, I always stop by GrouchO's Deli and get the STP Dipper with melted swiss, roast beef, bacon bits, and their stellar 45 sauce, with a hint of dill. They have locations in Charleston and Columbia, SC! Great place for lunch!
