The food is out of this world however they have two employees that age very rude & unpleasant- they're definitely not people's persons....the young guy that sits at the host stand and a female that resembles him that wears a hat are very impatient and rude, I felt very uncomfortable during my visit but the food is the bomb
This place was on our list of places to eat during our girls trip. We were not disappointed! The service was a bit slow but it was Sunday after church so we expected that plus this is a very popular place. The food is amazing. Staff are even more amazing! The soul rolls are delicious!!!
Two teens, two adults and we all cleaned our plates. Grilled shrimp and scallops with red rice and beans was my entree and I enjoyed it very much. The soul roll was a first for me but I will be trying to recreate in the home kitchen. Great service and a comfortable atmosphere.
As much as I would like to give 5 stars I simply cannot. Don't get me wrong though, the food was AMAZING. My family and I were feeling like we were starving street leaving Folly Beach so we were good and ready to eat. Getting us seated wasn't so bad, getting us fed was the absolute worse. It took 25 minutes to even take our order and bring water. It took another 30 minutes for us to get it and it was wrong, missing food and just confusing to the server. Once the manager came in, she jumped into action and had everything to us in no time. I believe the older gentleman that was just waking around was the owner, and I was taken aback that he did nothing to assist the staff. Even the other staff didn't help each other. Seems they lack training. Again, the food was really good, and KUDOS to the manager that walked in and got the ball rolling rolling!!! It's a great spot, they just need to sort each other more.
I cannot say enough good things about this place! It’s on the smaller side BUT it’s amazing! All fresh, home cooked, tasty food! The staff were all so friendly and pleasant. We went because my husband wanted gator and they’re the only ones we could find and came recommended from a friend. Truly we felt welcomed and like they actually cared about us there. Can’t say that for a lot of the places we’ve been down here. Most of them give you that “you’re not from around here” treatment… not at Gillie’s! 10/10 recommend this place and if I’m ever back down here I’ll for sure be coming back.

First time dining at Gillie’s Seafood and the food & service surpassed my expectations!! Food was absolutely delicious, and the employees made me feel like an out of town cousin visiting family. Will definitely be back when I’m in Charleston again.
When I tell you that this is some of the best food I've had in a while.... I took the first bite of that fried chicken, sat back in my chair and needed a minute. Tons of flavor and very juicy. The collards and red rice were amazing and the mac and cheese is hands down the best in town, period. The soul rolls are out of this world as well. Super friendly wait staff was the cherry on top for my visit. Will DEFINITELY be back. If anyone tells you the food here isn't good, stop talking to them. You don't need that negativity in your life.
While visiting Charleston for work I decided to try a new place. I will say that gillies had the best food I’ve had since I’ve been coming to Charleston. I had the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. For dinner I had the the combination dinner with shrimp, crab cakes, collards and hush puppies and it tasted amazing. The shrimp also tasted very fresh. I highly recommend this place and I will be back.
A great restaurant, with great staff, and amazing prices. The food is definitely worth the 40 minute drive it takes me to get there. We ordered Okra Soup, Gator bites, a kid fish and fries, and two specials that they had, turkey wing dinner. Will definitely return to try the seafood next time.
