This was my 2nd time there and it was just as good as the first. Reasonable prices, darts, foosball, pool, and a couple other games too. If you’re looking for a low key place, this is it.The only negative was that ordering at the bar was confusing because there was an “order spot” but not really. Not a huge deal though, still got drinks ?
Loved this hole in the wall bar! Great people and staff! So many beers to choose from! This is another West Ashley jewel we will visit when in town!!
I have been going here for more than 3/4 my life... A great watering hole with an amazing selection of beers. It is a staple for meeting up with my oldest friends.
This your basic, essential dive bar but with great food and atmosphere. The schnitzel was melt in your mouth and the coney dogs had the right amount of zing. Drinks were priced great and a strong pour. We have already been back. Charleston has great 5 star restaurants but you can spend a ton. We also have great bars with great food and FUN. Gene's is among the best of that genre.
I have been a patron of Genes since 2001 when I first lived in the Avondale area of West Ashley. Nothing but good memories and experiences. After recently moving back I'm warmed to see that nothing really has changed and they still have one of the best quesadillas I've ever had. Just goes to show that Germans can make even a traditional Mexican dish better than the original.
Have been trying to stop in & finally did, on a slow afternoon, purposely.Definitely a good spot! Bartender was friendly & very helpful in helping me figure out what to drink. Ordered an app. Was starving! Rule of thumb: always ask the staff what they recommend. Chix fingers it was. Straight out of the fryer!Regulars were very nice as well.Glad to have stopped in & tried a cple of new beers. Would definitely recommend at least stopping in to check it out. It’s a dive, it’s relaxing..I had a good experience & would go back so would recommend you try it out.

Awesome bartenders, laid back dive bar atmosphere, great food, and a legitimately impressive beer offering. Plus, their kitchen stays open until 1:00 on the weekends. It's hard not to love this spot.

Hands down the friendliest bar in town! Lincoln was an excellent bartender who kept my glass full and spirits high while I wrote a script and got work done on my car. Couldn't ask for a better way to pass the time on a Friday afternoon! Highly recommend the blue plate special, the beers on tap, and the busy atmosphere. Will be back soon!
