Enjoyed a little dinner date with the husband after work here the other day. I got a veggie pizza and a broccoli soup and both were very good. Will come back again. The hot chocolate was very good!
Excellent late lunch! They are very creative with their seating to get as many people in as they can in limited square footage. You most likely will sit with other people which we didn't mind at all. Makes it interesting. Soup and sandwiches for us and sweet tea(stir, bc your sugar is at the bottom ?) and water.Bathrooms were surprisingly clean considering the late time we were there.Service was great.
In keeping with the wife's ongoing efforts to improve my appreciation of the Holy City's culture and history, she informed me that we were going on a downtown HOUSE TOUR sponsored by the HISTORICAL SOCIETY, followed by dinner at a "French Cafe" style restaurant. "Great Honey", I replied, as I shelved my new bottle opener, delivered by Amazon just in time for tonight's Duke/North Carolina game. "I love Fondue", I lied. After the fifth or sixth historical house (tiny, cramped, tilting affairs with postage stamp gardens and oddly modern kitchens), during which I learned two important facts - how to spot a fake gilded mirror (paint flakes off) and that Northerners have a lot of money to spend on renovations, it was finally time for dinner. Though GAULART & MALICLET sounds like the name of a French Vaudville Act, after dining here, I wasn't surprised to learn they'd been in business since 1984, because the place was well worth the House Tour. Speaking of which, HOUSE TOURS make me mighty thirsty, so I was thrilled to find that they carried my favorite French beer, "La Yuengling". It was délicieuse! Scanning the menu, I quickly skipped over the FONDUE, due to an unfortunate incident as a child in which I learned that placing a fork directly from the Fondue Pot in one's mouth is SERIOUSLY PAINFUL. Feeling rather Gallic after "mes deux bières", I began to picture myself in a wharfside bistro in Marseilles, so I decided to go with the Bouillabaisse. Glad I did, because it was "une boîte à crayons rouge" or for those of you who only took one year of French in high school, TERRIFIC! But lest I forget, it came with a choice of soups or salad, so I decided to try the GAZPACHO, which turned out to be AMAZINGLY flavorful and very filling, though it was served on the cold side...(kidding). My wife went with the Mexican Shrimp and Chicken, one of the "Cuisines Traditionnelles" (that's French for "under $25) selections. She liked it so much that she wouldn't share a bite with me! Service was good. Value was great. Food was exceptional. Can't wait to come back, HOUSE TOUR or no HOUSE TOUR.
One of my favorite dining spots for lunch in Charleston. Great food, wine, and friendly service. I love this place!
I was visiting Charleston and looking for a local lunch spot. What a find! I had the O'Rye (half sandwich) and a small salad with house dressing. Delicious! Plus a delightful glass of French white wine (see photo), and a pink meringue for dessert. DoJo, our waiter, was fantastic! Don't miss an opportunity to visit G&M. You'll love it.
One of the older, classic French spots in CHS. Very small, funky set up. Lots of French wine options, not known to me but good! Shrimp and scallops were excellent, escargot not the best ever, a bit over cooked But still good?
Lived in this town a long time and have never been in - what a travesty! We had a delightful meal, in a fun and very european atmosphere. After just the first few bites we were already talking about when our next visit would be.le repas était fantastique
I had the special of the day and a side salad. Great atmosphere, great food, will definitely be returning to sample more of the menu.
That's what this rating should be! IT WAS HORRIBLE. Dishwater would have been better than their soup. Extremely overpriced hole in the wall. Server was rude! AVOID AT ALL COST!!
Had the passion fruit bellini and turkey brie croissant - both were amazing! Sat outside and enjoyed the breeze. Our server was so friendly and helpful...we peppered her with all our questions about Charleston and she was happy to accommodate.
