Reserved online with Resy. Big mistake. Resy is a poor excuse for reservation systems. Reserved weeks in advance but, based on Resy's poor reputation. decided to call the Fig directly to confirm the reservation. The person who answered the phone didn't see out reservation in the system but reserved for us anyway. Upon arrival at the Fig, the front desk had no record of either the Resy reservation nor the reservation that had been made directly. Fortunately we were able to dine later after having appetizers at the bar. Dinner was good but one of the fish dishes was somewhat overcooked. Having visited Fig in the past we have decided there are too many other good restaurants in Charleston and will give the Fig a pass for a few more years. The quality of Fig's food has slipped. In any case be highly suspicious of any reservation made using Resy. Use OpenTable instead if you can.
Food: What you hear is definitely true. It is James Beard Award restaurant, and it deserves it. - Appetizers: All top notch, what we tried and recommend: Lamb Tartar, the simple lettuce salad, “Little Gem Lettuce” and of course the must try “Ricotta Gnocchi”. - Entrée/main dishes: All dishes are executed with perfection. The masterpieces we tried and recommend: Sauteed Mutton Snapper, and the Corn Flour Dusted Yellow edge Grouper. In the past, I tried the skillet Hanger Steak ….. I still remember how amazing it tasted (try if you want meat instead of fish). - Deserts: The Sorghum Pudding is to die for. The Hazelnut tart is good as well. Drinks: I tried to study the wine list (16 pages) the might before, it was overwhelming, so I gave up and I just asked the Sommelier at the dinner for good pairing with the food. She is knowledgeable and courteous. The wine selection was done to please everyone and for all budgets and not overly overpriced above the market sale price. A selection from around the world. I am a sommelier myself, and I was pleased with the selection and “Collection”. Service: Our Waitress Ashley L.S. is amazing, experienced, observant, and courteous. Ambience/atmosphere: This place for everyone, those of the street; the tourists with their shorts, t-shirts and back packs, and those passing by with their jeans and slippers, and those like us who wants to celebrate a special occasion with a tie and a jacket. The restaurant owner will not turn anybody away as dress code is not reinforced, But Street cloths MAY BE OK on a weekday, but not on a weekend. Value: This is a Perfect for food lovers. You pay a reasonable price for a Perfect Meal. Overall rating! A Perfect Score. 5 out of 5. 100% Recommendations: A must try, if you can get a reservation spot (other than the occasional10 pm availability.
Amazing food, friendly and knowledgeable staff.
The hype is real. You will have to pay, but there will be no buyers remorse here. The reservation sellout is with good reason so do whatever you need to make this a meal on your list when you visit or live in Charleston. The staff were extremely helpful and everything we had was extremely delicious, all the way to the dessert - Miso Fish, Duck Salad, Cheese Gnocchi, Seafood over Carolina rice, and Local Strawberry dessert (my butchering of dish names). The Carolina rice in the seafood broth might have been the best taste of anything I have ever had. Just do what you need to, to have a meal here.
Believe the hype! This was our first dinner on our first visit to Charleston and it was 100 percent worth the wait! We made reservations a month prior and they only had a 10:15 pm spot available. I’m glad the we decided to stick it out cause I normally don’t eat that late.Service was great and the food was fantastic! Do not skip the Ricotta Gnocchi alla Bolognese or the Chicory Salad. These 2 dishes would make a great lunch pairing. We ended up ordering 2 of the gnocchi dishes because it was that good! For my entree I chose the Sautéed Black Bass which came with a curried carrot purée, peas, asparagus and ramps. This was delicious! Never knew peas, carrots and fish would be so good together. For dessert I decided on the lime crème puffs. You get 3 generous sized puffs that taste like heaven! Not too sweet but just right to enjoy with a cup of their mint tea.Their menu changes daily and sometimes it changes in the middle of service because they source local meats and veggies. I can’t wait to come back on my next visit to enjoy more of what they have to offer.
Family dinner went great. Drinks are well-made and food is delicious Staff is polite and welcoming. Definitely will be back.
Amazing atmosphere and our waitress was fabulous!! We couldn’t get a reservation, but we went early and they have a community table that’s first come, first serve. We met some fantastic people and even one from my home time in Maryland!! Now on to the food…Fantastic!! The gnocchi is soooo soft and delicious. The battle fish is amazing and the pork Milanese is sooo moist and tasty. The chocolate boudin is also a great after dinner treat and not too heavy, but definitely chocolatey caramel goodness!! I cannot recommend this place enough!! Delightful is too light of a word. What a Charleston gem!!!
Tip #1: Ask the waiter what they would recommend. Their menu is curated and tasteful, and it is well worth asking the waitstaff for their recommendations to be sure you do not miss a delicious dish that may have slipped your eye initially. Gluten free and vegetarian options available. A lovely place for dinner that is well worth the splurge. Just be sure to book in advance as tables are quickly snatched up!
Amazing from start to finish! Great food, ambiance and service
So good. Have been here twice now and never disappointed. The gnocchi is honestly I think my favorite. Fun creative drinks as well. Just have to plan ahead to get a reservation!
