We have to stop by anytime we are in Charleston. The food is amazing. We went last night and we’re going back again tonight because it was that good! I had the bbq chicken, red rice and macaroni and my husband had turkey wings, white rice and cabbage. It was full of flavor, hot and fresh. You have to try it, you’ll love it.

My family had ribs, baked chicken, corn, and red rice and the food was simply incredible. I wanted to share quality soul food with my family while on vacation and East Side Soul Food became my kids favorite meal from our trip!

Great food with a friendly, courteous staff. I like that's it's black owned, local and has a varied menu. The fried shrimp was delicious as were the peppery green beans. The yellow rice was ok, but the mac and cheese was awesomely cheesy, tangy, and flavorful.Definitely will visit again.

This place is the absolute best. We have to stop anytime we are in town. It’s so good we usually take additional plates back home. Mr. Brooks is always there to greet you with such a warm smile. I promise you this is the best soul food in Charleston. Turkey wings falls off the bone, and let’s not get started on how good the collard greens are!! I’ve never had to add a drop of salt or pepper. Pure perfection!

Sorry not sorry, I dont get the hype. I ordered the chicken tenders and mac and cheese... chicken was tough like it was re-fried and not fresh and it tasted like old grease that was also used to fry fish. Did not smell appetizing. Mac and cheese... meh. I did not finish my food. The "restaurant" is really messy and cluttered and distracted me so much the old man didnt give me my change. I would not go back. Not for me but it might be for someone else. I'll stick to soul food in Georgia. Have yet to find a place in South Carolina who knows what they are doing.

So... Damn... Good. East Side embodies everything you dream of when thinking about classic southern soul food. Everything is perfectly seasoned and cooked, and always fresh and hot. Not once out of the many, many times I’ve ordered here have I been dissatisfied. Seriously a must have for any local/tourist food lover alike. It’ll be more enjoyable and less of a hit on the wallet than many of the fancy restaurants in Chas. Trust!

the fried fish was crispy and the breading was flavorful. The mac n cheese was delicious. Collard greens were the perfect blend of sweet and heat. Good food and reasonable prices.

Great friendly staffFood delicious- home cooking with what felt like family. Thank you for sharing history, locally sourced and cooked food.Sending love from Philadelphia and New Jersey

The first meal I had during my visit to Charleston which was fried fish, green beans, and white rice. It was freshly cooked and tasted like grandma Sunday dinner. I will definitely come back to visit the next time I’m in Charleston. Ain’t nothing better than some Southern soul food cooking!

Holy wow! This place is a true find and a true hole in the wall joint. The collard greens are a thing of beauty. The meatloaf divine. Mac n cheese and red rice soooo dang gooooood. The owner was nice and eager to chat as he handed us our food. Great food at great prices. Nice experience all around. Will definitely return when we visit next.
