Great place, Mac and cheese was the best!!! Awesome banana pudding and peach cobbler! Very good home cooking! Friendly staff pretty laid back spot.
If six stars were an option—we would leave six.We got the buffet on a Thursday, so my husband enjoyed some livers and gizzards, while the rest of our family enjoyed the pulled pork, fried chicken, greens, slaw, corn nuggets, and desserts. The hot mustard bbq sauce was amazing! This was our first experience with hash—and we were skeptical of the soupy-looking dish at first. When we left, though, my husband had me searching for recipes. Everyone on staff was so friendly and helpful. We would recommend it to anyone living in or visiting Charleston. The sign says BBQ, but the Southern homecooking we found there was a delightful surprise.
Absolutely delicious food. Perfectly seasoned. Many items to choose from buffet. Friendly service. I definitely recommend.
Duke's is a good old-fashioned country Bar-B-Q buffet. Their hash & rice is decent, good fried chicken, yummy BBQ sauce...but the standout item here is the mac-n-cheese!!! I think it's the best in Charleston. It's the kind my Grandmother used to make.
Just good food! The buffet is the best deal in town. The fried chicken is always great, the hush puppies are amazing and the barbecue is delicious! Where else can you get great food, friendly service and your drink is included? We love Dukes and either dine in or get takeout often!
I have been going to Dukes for many years, mainly for their banana pudding. The rest of their cuisine is very good. Years ago the pudding was made well, but then as time went on they started adding more vanilla wafers and less pudding. Today, there was only whipped cream and cookies with a couple of shards of bananas. Such a disappointment. Did not realize that the yellow pudding was so extraordinarily expensive.
I'm a little iffy with buffet style restaurants, especially after the pandemic--too many hands on too many handles for my taste.A separate sign below the marque declares that Thursday is apparently. gizzard and liver day, which as a former northerner, is not my thing. But the restaurant was busy, so it must be popular and I can say that the pulled pork sandwich was quite tasty.
Always good portions and tastes great. I love the fried fish, mac n cheese, greens beans & hash with rice. They did forget the 2 hush puppies last Friday ? but that was the first time it's happened.
This place used to be good... Last few times I took my family the buffet was a joke. It was a weekday night and the food was cold . especially the fried food .all the cake was dug into right out the middle and they only had corners of each cake left that looked like they where mixed up with a spoon .just a pan of moosh...I asked if we could get a fresh strawberry shortcake on the bar and the young Oriental looking lady copped a huge attitude and didn't even answer me..instead she snatched the tray of strawberry shortcake and walked to the back...we then went back to the table to wait because she was taking awhile to come from the back and when we went back up it still wasn't out as if she wanted us to forget we asked for it. Also they had three tongs in the seafood area one fish night and everyone was going straight to the fish from the chicken to the French fries.. I asked the lady if they had more tongs for the fish she said use the chicken tongs..what about customers who are allergic? Do y'all not believe in cross contamination? Also do not go two hours to closing they will not put new food on the bar Andi literally pay to have limited options of cold buffet food ..they have no bread options except hush puppies and instead of frying more they 86 them so then my entire family doesn't get one bread options with dinner...they need new management.
Dukes is the first place I stop when I am in town! It's always fresh and delicious.
