Cool place on a hot day. We stopped in for a cold drink ended up getting an espresso, peach, key lime and lemon sorbet, cannoli and an ice cream sandwich. Totally worth the wait. The place was packed with people.
This place reminded me of the very busy, lively bakeries in the North End of Boston. We got a carrot cake to go and it was phenomenal. I loved the fact that it was not overly sweet. It really was carrot cake perfection. It's loud at Carmella's and really not a place for the older folks to hang out, but I appreciated all the young people having fun and socializing.
My wife and i gave Carmella's Cafe and Dessert Bar a try today. Pastries are very good. Nicely decorated, with some inside seating. The cakes are very large personal portions; maybe enough for two. So many options that it was tough to make a decision. My wife opted for a cannoli. It was a nice portion as well. Very delicious.Definitely should give them a try
Great spot to grab a homemade dessert or quick bit. pictured is the homemade cibbata roll, roasted turkey, asiago cheese and fig jam jam. wow the cibbata roll was crunchy on the outside and soft and airy inside. The turkey was delicious the asiago cheese tangy and complimented perfectly with the fig jam. Desserts to die for, share on with a table. You wont be disappointed great stop- swing in
Very good drinks! And the waffle tower dessert is delicious! The only fault with this place is the sandwiches are always a little on the burnt side, but it is mostly a dessert place. Will still continue to enjoy this place often.
This place is THE place to be in Charleston. It is perfectly situated and has so many nice offerings. It is very crowded but efficient. They have nice outside seating. I just got a latte, which was so good, but their desserts looked amazing and they also made all kinds of fancy drinks. Line is long but moves fast and is WORTH IT!!! A Charleston don't miss. Even the foodie tour stopped here, so you know it is good and I heard another tour guide recommend it
We read terrific reviews, and being a baker and having a sweet tooth, I made it a point to stop here. It did NOT disappoint! The location was great. The ambience was superb! And the desserts were worth every calorie! We had the carrot cake for Easter, and it was delicious. Cake was moist and cream cheese frosting was not too sweet. It was close to perfect. Next time we are in Charleston, we will be back to try something else!
Very crowded place and I can see why! The place smells wonderful and i would HIGHLY recommed placing tour order online and head to the fr9n 9f the line to pick it up. The cookies are very addictive as well as the cheesecake. Will definitely head back on our next visit to Charleston !
Delicious Turtle Cheesecake & nice house coffee. Breakfast sandwich was so tiny & expensive. Unfortunately waffle was unavailable when I visited them.
Awesome ambience, especially the open-air feel. Hot toddy was perfect for the [slightly chilly] weather. Espresso martini lives up to the hype. 5 star drinks, 5 star friendly and attentive bartenders/baristas, but prepare to be surprised with hidden taxes and fees. Nowhere else in Charleston did I experience a $12 drink turning into a $14.25 drink due to a county tax, state tax, hospitality tax, "liquor by drink" tax, and an "employee benefits" tax (really speaks to the bar owners' greed if they'll take a profit while banking on the customer to subsidize low wages, but I digress). Hidden pricing implemented after the check is received is ALWAYS a turn-off. Do better.Edit: in response to your reply, you add $0.99 (per drink, or per tab?) to subsidize the benefits you give to your employees, instead of including that in the price of the beverages. It smacks of greed when you don't just gladly pay your employees' benefits from your profits and instead pass that cost onto the customer, which you should be doing upfront instead of when the bill is closed out. I would gladly pay $13 per drink if $0.99 of that went to employee benefits. Otherwise, it kinda seems like a cash grab.
