I’m from Charleston and everytime I would visit I would go here. They use to be amazing the owners were from France and they had more options and better quality food. Last week I went here and I was expecting it all to be same old but apparently there are new owners that made the place crumble. It is no where close to what it was. The staff is slow and grumpy. Coffee tasted like coffee flavored milk. I asked for a toasted ham and cheese and got ham and cheese between two rocks. No matter how many times the owner claims it’s fresh we all know that it is not. Stop lying to your customers.
We lived in Charleston, for the last 9 years and this place was our staple. We loved it when the French owners had it. Fresh food, great service, warm people and amazing pastries. Yet new management took over at the beginning of the pandemic and downhill it went. We moved out of Charleston 8 months ago and recently returned for vacation. We, of course, stopped by this place as we had so many memories there and were left utterly disappointed. Nothing was fresh or warm. Honestly, we felt things seemed store bought. The place has really become a disappointment. Sad.
We stayed two blocks away at a VRBO and were thrilled to find such a nice place for breakfast and lunch. Food was delicious. We ate outside on a lovely day. Too bad out stay in Charlestown wasn't longer so we could try out everything on the menu!
We came out of town and drove to this cafe to have brunch. The avocado toast is wonder bread with avocado paste and a handful of pepper flakes… $13 and pitiful… my husband got the madden and it’s a scramble egg sandwich.. when I explained we could even eat this I was told.. sorry you didn’t like it..
The shop was moderately busy at 11:00 on a Sunday morning. Service was relatively quick. Seemed to be a number of phone-in (or online) orders handled between walk-in orders.Staff was friendly. Please add heavy cream as a option for coffee.
The location and outdoor seating is gorgeous. The coffee is only so-so and even though it wasn't terribly busy, the wait was long and our order wasn't correct. They fixed it for us when we alerted them of the error.
$6 for a tiny chai tea latte. You’d hope it would be good, but it tastes like coffee and milk. Would not recommend and will definitely not be going back.
If you don't go here, well, sorry to say, stupid is as stupid does. The Madden is a scrumptious blend of flavors. Who doesn't like cheese, egg and bacon? They just do it better here. The Berry French Toast, there simply are no words. A piece-de-resistance or something french sounding that means, Oh My God, I can die in peace now. Don't say you didn't know because I just told you. Cheers and you're welcome!
We’ve been coming here every now and then for the past 4 or 5 years, and we have seen the quality decline. The place had a French owner before, which was great because they were offering authentic buckwheat crepes (eggless), and the regular crepes were fantastic. We kept on coming when the new owner took over and, while they didn’t offer buckwheat crepes anymore, the regular crepes were still very good.Today, we came for the last time. The crepes were definitely not made by order: they were COLD. Not as in “I made these 10 minutes ago and they’re cold”, but more like “I took these out of the fridge 10 minutes ago”. Surprisingly, they were crunchy on the edges (crunchy crepes are not even a thing). They were also lacking in filling: they used to spread hazelnut spread inside the whole crepes, and now they spread it in the middle, so you end up with a half-empty crepe. If this was our first time, we wouldn’t come back again. Since we have been coming for years and we know how the quality has gone down…we won’t be coming back either. If you’re looking for crepes, go to the other crepe place in Charleston. If you like the place or you eat something different, come here.
After waiting for a good 20-30 minutes and watching food be served to everyone who came way after us we had to ask the guy with the extremely smug look on his face about the status of our order. The excuse provided was oh the printer in the back isn't working properly yet it worked perfectly fine for everyone that was served food already. He was unapologetic but the lady from the kitchen helped get the food out after she was asked and at that point as an apology she said she'll send some complimentary croissants that never arrived. Never again will we return to this place. Food was subpar
