Excellent mustard based BBQ on the pulled pork. Brisket was great as well. Great mustard sauces to choose from. Good side with lots ofoptions. Also they have giant onion rings that are simply amazing. Best you will find anywhere.
Was on an overnight stay in Charleston and seen Bessinger’s online and thought I would check it out. Enjoyed it so much the first night I went back for the second night for dinner again! This place is the real deal!
Perhaps this is an unfair review given that we arrived on Fathers Day after a 6 hour drive and we were tired and hungry. However, the management can improve communication with those taking food orders regardless of day. We ordered brisket and just when it was being rung in, suddenly there was no more brisket available. As well as chicken wings. A man had ordered wings and had been waiting at least 15 minutes when he was told there were no more wings. We then ordered pulled chicken which was served but came out cold. I was the second person this had happened to. The chicken was good otherwise. The slaw was very good as was the okra. After talking to several locals I believe this was an unusual occurrence because they all love Bessingers.
I drive 2 hours from Myrtle Beach to Bessinger's I pass a lot of eating places. I know what I want and its great food so well worth the drive and price. I prefer the cheeseburger basket. The big fries an awesome onion ring that you will never find anywhere else. Then I take a couple pounds of the best BBQ back home with me and some sauce. If you haven't been, go you will go back I promise.
This is very good place to eat BBQ, it has a great taste, and the sides are plentiful. It seems to be a mustard-based sauce that is available, but it is very good. The staff were friendly and welcoming if you have never been there, really enjoyed the food. Worth a lunch or dinner stop very tasty
Raw fries. Burned crunchy rings. NO sauce on Big Joe. Too little sauce in bag. Cancel culture: they canceled KIDS’ NIGHT every Thursday evening. Looks like they only want the elite 1%, and NOT the middle and lower class. Kids’ Night was a real draw, as that is the only night we could afford. It made it worth waiting on our food for 28 minutes. New cashier New this, New that. A team leader would have pitched in to speed customers out the door Kids’Night also served to recruit a new generation. Now, we may never return.
I grew up in SC and have missed mustard based BBQ. Bessinger's does not disappoint. If you are in the area and do not stop for lunch or dinner, shame on you.
The meat on the sandwich was very well cooked. It had a nice smoky Flavor. The fries were nice and hot. The biggest problem with the meal was the onion. Half the of the onion ring was simply the skin to the onion. It was just beading. I got the sandwich to go. I did not think they had enough sauce for the amount of meat.
First time order, dinner for 12. Bessinger’s was so helpful and made menu decisions and amounts easy. Pick up was complete and on time. And the dinner was a huge hit! Pulled pork, beef brisket, chicken wings, Cole slaw, and kale were perfect. The Sweet Tea (convenient gallon jugs) was perfect. Will be sure our next visit to Charleston area includes a meal or two at Bessinger’s!
It's my pleasure to say that this is my favorite barbecue restaurant in town. I've been here quite a few times and it has been very good as usual. Their onion rings are homemade and they are the very best in town. I'm also impressed by their mustard based barbecue sauce is very much the best as well. It's one of the oldest restaurants in the city so there's a good tradition going on here.
