I'm so glad I got to finally try the food here. It is amazing! Everything tasted super good! Staff are friendly and helpful. Fun place, loved visiting.

Everyone was nice. Food was good authentic soul food.Chicken was moist, the sides were great.

Couldn’t wait to try this place and it was worth the wait. Creamy mac n’ cheese, crispy fried chicken, smothered pork chops and tasty collard greens and string beans are a must. Enjoy the chicken gizzards and necks. The okra stew was fresh but a little too sweet for me. Corn bread adds a nice touch to the meal. Warm and hospitable! A must when visiting Charleston. Very affordable too!

Visiting Charleston and wanted to try more local small business eats this time instead of eating downtown battery area. I’m well versed in soul food. I google searched for best fried chicken in Charleston and Bertha’s popped up first in an article for some of Charlestons best. Basically you go up to the counter and there is food resting in hot pans you choose what you want and food is scooped from pans and placed in to go containers. Staff kind of treat everyone like they are regulars so they don’t ask any questions or give suggestions or anything for instance I ordered fried chicken, Lima beans, rice and cabbage, I wasn’t given an option if I wanted white or dark meat so I assumed I would get mixed chicken. (The chicken was not out in the hot pans). I also love seafood so I tried a side cup of a seafood trio which included Tilapia, shrimp and scallops. The chicken was not mixed but a leg quarter that was very poorly cooked and greasy, Lima beans seasoned well but definitely not a fan of the pig tails that was mixed with the beans. Would have definitely preferred smoked ham hocks or smoked turkey has an option, the tails super soggy, very unappetizing to even look at, the cabbage was good and the seafood trio which was seasoned very well however it was over cooked scallops so dry. Unfortunately I tossed my 25.00 dollar meal and headed to Popeyes something I can get any day of the week. I was let down by Charleston thinking this is the best fried chicken in town.

Surprised to see only a short line full of locals considering the James Beard recognition. We went on Saturday to experience the expanded menu that includes seafood, well worth it as the fried seafood platter was a delight. The $5 fried chicken and Lima bean plate was incredible. I didn't like Lima beans until I had these. If I lived here I would have a hard time not getting them for lunch every day. If you eat one meal in Charleston it needs to be here.

I moved down with my family and friends from Memphis Tennessee and someone pointed out Bertha's kitchen out to me and I can't stop eating there the food is delicious the price is amazing and the staff is outstanding thank you Bertha

You have to try it. Really great soul food.Lots of locals eat here. Ribs and collard greens were great. Whitefish very good.

Amazing! The flavors were outstanding! If you are looking for fancy this may not be it, if you are looking for real good down to earth, flavorful, soulful food Bertha's Kitchen is where it's at. The prices are very reasonable. I had crab rice with shrimp and scallops. The shrimp literally melted in my mouth, delicious! My husband had chicken, Mac and cheese another wonderful choice.

Positive feedback: staff was friendly. Stayed courteous under pressure.Family oriented. Mask requirement signs and social distance signs, were posted.Prices weren't too bad.variety of food choices was ok.I won't call it negative feedback but maybe opportunities to grow.A little more seasoning. Not so over cooked, on some items. (Lima beans/rice was a little on mushy side. porkchops was a little tough).Overall, glad to see Bertha's is still around, after all these years.

The fried chicken was so hot out of the oil, we had to wait about ten minutes to eat it. This place is a James Beard award winner! Go find out why! You won't regret it!
