This little restaurant (about a block from the Inn) is AMAZING! Very cool vibe and the food and drinks are delicious.
Came in at 530 to be greeted by a delightful hostess and shown to our table. Waited twenty minutes before being greeted our server, who took our order immediately. Waited almost forty minutes for an appetizer, while every table around us received full entrees and multiple drinks. Was notified an hour into our dinner that the kitchen had never started our entrees. This was a disaster at every step, will not be returning.
Pizza and pork belly bun were amazing. The entrees, not so much… Duck breast was well done and chewy. The sides were cold. Our server was great, and the ambiance of the place was really cool. I’m thinking she got busy with another table, and no one else ran out our food. It continued to cook under the heat lamp. I think we’d stick to drinks and appetizers next time.
Rated as the #1 eating choice in Beaufort is high praise, so we strove to get a reservation, We were lucky and got the last reservation for 2 on a Saturday night. My husband had a unique and wonderful pizza. I had the gnocchi ... it was a generous portion and I could not finish it. Truthfully, though they were tasty I found them to be a bit doughy. Even still, I loved the sauce and appreciated the homemade-ness of the pasta. We shared an amazing dessert. The service was good and two different staff people came by to say hello and ask if everything was all right. We appreciated that. All of that being said, the noise level was pretty close to unbearable. It's a small place that had many enthusiastic diners in it and there's really not much they could do to keep the noise level down. Everyone there was having such a wonderful time, but truthfully the decibel level was overwhelming for me.
Hello from San Francisco! I haven’t seen you in a bit. Missing your incredible hospitality and that yummy bourbon mash. Hope to see you very soon!
Old Bull Tavern is perfection! If we lived here, it would be a regular spot for us! We sat at the bar and Megan served us - her attentiveness was stellar. The vibe is great. However the real star of the show is the food! Wow! We have eaten all over the world and when my wife and I both agree the meal was memorable - that means it was special in so many ways. The flavors - inventive and yummy!!!! The wasabi deviled eggs! The pork chop with collard greens - unlike any you have ever had - promise! The duck confit - crispy and good. We wish we could have tried more dishes! We will be back Old Bull!
Easily my favorite place in Beaufort to eat and enjoy time with friends and family! Great atmosphere, delicious food with different dish sizes (including some wonderful French-influenced meals), smaller but very solid beer bottle/tap list, and just excellent all around. Have been coming for a few years and plan to continue!
It should have and could have been a 5 star review. But the overall experience was rather varied. To start with, my wife and I ordered the mullet pate and the olive and goats cheese tapenade. Both were excellent and were served with a smile and in good time. We ate as much as we could - both helpings were very generous - and then it went downhill. The pub was busy and it took a good 15 - 20 minutes before our plates were taken away (and yes we had both placed our knives and forks together). Eventually our plates were removed and no more than a couple of minutes later, my wife’s pizza and my lamb shank arrived. A bit too quickly as it transpired. Mine was lukewarm and had clearly been standing awaiting the signal from our waitress that we had finished our starters. I asked that my lamb be taken back to be heated. It arrived some time later and was not much warmer. I did respond accordingly to our waitress but said I’d get on with eating it as my wife was by then well into her pizza. Aside from the not very warm dish, the lamb was very tasty. My wife declared her pizza ok - she felt the thin crust was somewhat soggy. We declined desserts as we were full. Disappointingly, there was no gesture on the restaurant’s behalf. No deduction for the wine (I had two glasses - offer one free?), no offer of a free dessert (which we would have politely but graciously declined) or a free coffee. As a result we did not leave a tip. So overall I’m afraid a mixed review. In fact after finishing our starters we were raving about the restaurant. Sadly the high standard at the beginning of the meal was not sustained. Other comments - nice ambience and reasonable prices. Would we return? 50:50.
Don’t let the outside of this resturant fool you, the ambiance and the food is wonderful! Our server Ashley was very helpful in helping us plan our wine selection and our meal! The shrimp appetizer was delicious and the Winemaker Salad although simple was fantastic ! The owner Oscar is so friendly and wants his customers to come and “ be comfortable”. We will definitely return on our next trip!
This was recommended by locals that lived near us in Charleston for many years. Living in a foodie city makes for tough recommendations, but they did not steer us wrong. This is a small and charming restaurant, with excellent wait staff and communication. Our food was good and service was impeccable.
