First time eating here.We ordered 2 Cuban sandwiches and they made a off menu cheese quesadilla for my 4 year old. The Cuban sandwiches were phenomenal, honestly you have to travel to FL to find one as good and they xame with a mountain of perfectly cooked fries. My daughter's Quesadilla was cooked equally perfect, with a generous amount of cheese without being overkill. After our first impression we will 100% definitely be returning.

Absolutely mouth wateringly delicious! Even my 5 & 7 yrs love this spot! Be warned, this good is authentic and they love spice!

These are tacos worth driving to!!! They are huge, creative, modern tacos that taste incredibly flavorful and fresh. I cannot recommend the short rib ($5.50) and crispy shrimp ($6.50) tacos enough, and I can only image every single option will be just as amazing and I can't wait to return to find out for myself. While expensive, they are absolutely worth their cost. The shrimp were plentiful, large, and lightly battered and paired with a generous amount of guac and refreshing slaw. The short ribs were so so juicy/flavorful and the spicy slaw was SPICY--I think it was topped with sliced habanero which really hit me sideways haha the two tacos I got worked well together. Both were on thick, homemade corn tortillas that were insanely delicious and held the generous ingredients without break or leaking.Came for takeout about 30 minutes before close and was surprised there weren't any tables to sit at, seemed to be just a big kitchen with a pickup table. It was also hard to locate from outside and could use better signage. As a large order came in before I arrived, I had to wait 20 minutes for mine to be made so perhaps call ahead for the best ordering experience. I came to use my RI Food Fight Taco Passport, and after visiting about 15 local taco shops, El Jefe was without a doubt the best in Rhode Island hands down so do yourself a favor and give them a try.

Was not expecting that, the food was excellent an huge portions couldnt finish my meal best taco spot i ever ate from wish i left a better tip only thing was the waite but they were super busy an it was a fri night def coming back

Discovered on RI FOOD FIGHTS Taco MANIA!Seems to be takeout only. Huge kitchen and generously sized menu. Lots of taco options.Tacos are piled high with fresh ingredients and delicious seasoned meats. We got Barbacoa and Grilled Chicken. Both super tender and bursting with flavor.Believe they also make their own tortillas, which are perfectly tender.

Delicious food, pleasant service, I dream about their quesabirria tacos!! Would highly recommend as everything tastes fresh and well thought out. I was a little scared of the prices at first but everything is absolutely worth the price and more!

My wife and I stopped in because El Jefe was on our Food Fight passport - we were already kind of full because it was our third stop (I feel like this is an important detail). We walked in with no expectations and remained in that state (the inside is very unassuming) until we opened our takeaway boxes. Y'all. This place is the TRUTH. We lived in San Diego and this rivals even the best of SD tacos. We had the short rib and the barbacoa and they were to die for. I often complain about New England's lack of creativity and freshness when it comes to food but I was blown away. The food was bright, fresh, and flavorful. We live in Newport, but I would (and will) HAPPILY drive up here again to explore more of the menu. I was already full but I couldn't put down the tacos. Interestingly enough, I saw a bad review about the tortillas - we found that they were soft, sturdy (IMPORTANT!), and fresh. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

If I could sum up my feelings in a few short words, I would say, "Not for me."The longer version, in order of events:When I called to place a pickup order, I was immediately told they were busy with a catering event and to call back in an hour. Reluctantly I used the online ordering feature, which told me my order would be ready at 6:00 p.m.Later, it changed to 6:30 p.m. Skeptical, I went to pick my order up at 6:10, and it was already packaged and waiting to go. When you walk into the place, you realize that in actuality it is not a restaurant, but a catering company which sells tacos out of the back door. I walked into an industrial kitchen with no employees in sight, rang a bell, and a man came from a back room with my order. And now for the worst part, the food itself. It wasn't bad per se, but I'm not the kind of person who likes a bunch of fruit and weird, pickled-vegetables on my tacos with equally strange fruity-cream sauce. We got four different types of tacos to try and they were all a different amalgamation of meat, fruit, vegetable and juices on cold, oddly textured soft tortillas. It was all just too much for us. Imagine biting into the entire cornucopia at once. Flavors battled for dominance over my taste buds and, unfortunately, the tastes least expected when eating tacos were the ones to claim victory. The sad part is, if these had just been meat, cheese, beans, lettuce and essentially "normal" ingredient tacos, they may have been amazing; the weird tortillas not withstanding.Another aspect of the food I found unsettling was how over-the-top acidic it was. I'm not one to get acid reflux, and even with an antacid I was puke-burping for the rest of the night. At around midnight, I awoke from a dead sleep and found myself sprinting to the toilet. You can imagine the rest. The next morning my throat was raw from all the reflux. So why did I give two stars, instead of one? Because in spite of my bad experience, the food genuinely looked like art. You can tell there is a standard of pride that goes into each and every taco they make. I applaud their effort, but at the end of the day I'm afraid I'm far too basic for this type of cuisine.Again, Not for Me.

Outstanding! Fresh and homemade, we first tried el Jefe’s 2 weeks ago and we’ve been back twice since then! Honestly, we tried to go even more often but we didn’t realize they are closed on the weekends so I’m saying we are officially stalkers of el Jefe at this point. In the most obsessive way imaginable. You will be too. No question about it, this place is the real deal. Thank you, el Jefe. You really are the boss!

Amazing tacos... fresh ingredients...all with a smile. Thank you. We will definitely be back!
